Why does no where accept baby clothes

Onemorecrisp · 22/07/2019 07:32

I’ve got so many baby clothes lots unworn. Cannot find anywhere to donate them. Women’s shelter don’t accept etc. Not sure people will go to a charity shop for them and there are a lot of odds from multipacks, what did you do in this situation?

Your local Homestart would know, if they cant take them themselves.

NearlySchoolTimeAgain · 22/07/2019 08:03

Freecycle groups?

We gave bags of every age to our HV in one of our moves.

H2OH20Everywhere · 22/07/2019 08:07

How much do you want for them?

endofthelinefinally · 22/07/2019 08:09

Ask your HV. They often give things to people in need, discreetly.

Namechangeymcnamechange11 · 22/07/2019 08:11

Your closest baby bank!

Lumene · 22/07/2019 08:11

Give to a friend with younger kids or post to a specialist charity shop (eg FARA)

00100001 · 22/07/2019 08:12

Facebook market place, they will sell.Or just out them up for free.

People will buy them from charity shops. I just picked up a whole bunch of baby clothes for my sister, 5 for £1!

londonrach · 22/07/2019 08:14

Theres loads of places accept baby clothes...in our area lots of charities who give straight to mum and baby for free. If you struggling take to a church or charity shop or ask on local facebook as people will know the local charities who help families direct.

AbbyNormal · 22/07/2019 08:16

Do you have a textile recycle bin near you? Worth a Google for your nearest one if you don't find a home for them.

BertieBotts · 22/07/2019 08:17

Ask around, you might know someone who knows someone who is expecting?

cardboard33 · 22/07/2019 08:21

I'm also in a v affluent area of SW London and pretty much all of my baby's clothes are from charity shops or second hand. I was there picking up some extra babygrows just last week. We've got specialist kids charity shops but the non specialist stores will also take them.

What about mum2mum markets? If there's one of those near you then you could just get a stall for a day and sell all of your baby stuff... I love them as between them and the charity shops it's meant we've barely bought anything new.

Failing that, what about your local children's centre? Ours is always giving stuff away including clothes.

dottiedodah · 22/07/2019 08:22

Sometimes we get bags through the door asking for clothing .Would they be of use do you think?.Otherwise Air Ambulance bins in store car parks.

HisBetterHalf · 22/07/2019 08:24

Xsell them on ebay and then give the money to charity

Notcopingwellhere · 22/07/2019 08:26

NCT nearly new sale? I don’t think you have to be a member to sell/donate.

Do you want to help charity or just see that the clothes get some use? If the latter, you can put them on eBay as a bundle or bundles and people buy that way- I did. Or your local Facebook selling site for free.
I also offered mine to colleagues having first babies.

Notcopingwellhere · 22/07/2019 08:28

I also saw a Facebook post the other day for Cheeki Monkeys markets which sound similar to mum2mum mentioned above.

Piffle11 · 22/07/2019 08:30

When I was getting rid of DC's baby clothes, anything that still had a tag on, the charity shop took. The rest - the babygros, vests, etc - I bagged up and put on Freecycle. Got rid of the lot very quickly.

coffeeforone · 22/07/2019 08:34

I've found it really hard to donate/get rid of preloved baby clothes too. Some have tags on etc. Don't have time to to sell, just give away to somewhere they will be used as easily as possible. It's always tricky, nowhere wants them and you lose the motivation after a couple of places refuse and selfishly all I want is rid of them to make space!

And I'm always hesitant about trying to offload them to friends in case they want to buy new or already have so much. It happened to me and it's just passing the above problem.

I was so delighted when my pregnant friend announced that she would happily take anything as she is due in the same season as DS was born and didn't want to buy new!

Brownwool · 22/07/2019 08:41

All of my local charity shops will accept baby clothes. In addition, we have once specifically only for baby stuff - called 'FARA'

Sugarformyhoney · 22/07/2019 08:42

Your health visitor or children’s centre should take them

NoSquirrels · 22/07/2019 08:43

I’ve found it so hard to get rid of baby things. People on FB want something for nothing.

If you want to "get rid" of things then something for nothing is great - give it away for nothing!

Bundles of baby clothes always seem to go on Freecycle etc.

notoafternoontea · 22/07/2019 08:46

Our local women's refuge takes them! As does our local SureStart centre (no longer called that, but you know what I mean). In fact they nearly bit my hand off when I arrived up with a whole load of stuff, which I'd actually washed!

You'll definitely find somewhere for them OP.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/07/2019 08:46

Our local charity shops take them, and I've heard of a refugee centre that welcomes them.
A hospice charity shop near here has a dedicated large area for baby/children's clothes, toys, and all sorts of baby/toddler equipment - cots and buggies, etc.
Pity a few more don't do it.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/07/2019 08:47

And there's always Freecycle.

Caspianberg · 22/07/2019 08:51

I would just put on facebook marketplace with 'free to whoever can collect'.

pooopypants · 22/07/2019 08:53

Ours went to a local women's refuge (May have been for young mums), they also took a full travel system, moses basket, baby bath etc

Have a call round and see if there's similar in your area?
