To be worrying about this - unnecessary or not?

We’re away on holiday with my 9 month old DS at the moment, we arrived today and I’ve just looked in the suitcase and realised we’ve forgotten his sleeping bag.
I only have a blanket with us - it’s not cellular, so no holes. I’m now panicking as I’ve never let him sleep with a blanket before. I know this sounds silly.

We are in quite a rural area and there doesn’t seem to be any shops nearby that would sell that type of thing. Just touristy type shops.

If you're in a hotel can you ask if they have a cellular type blanket? Is it warm, will your DS need a blanket or will a Muslin be ok?

SlimGin · 21/07/2019 23:18

If it's warm enough he may be fine in a vest + sleep suit?

MarthasGinYard · 21/07/2019 23:20

Op how about a pillow case tucked in at sides.

Remember doing this with dc when it was warm

Artesia · 21/07/2019 23:30

Not being funny- a genuine question, but what is it you are worried about? If you are worried about DS over heating, use a pillow case as a sheet as per pp, or leave him without any covering. If is the risk of getting it over his face, or becoming uncovered and getting cold as he moves around - tuck the blanket under the mattress at the sides and bottom.

HeadintheiClouds · 21/07/2019 23:31

Why would a blanket be too heavy but a sleeping bag wouldn’t?

MarthasGinYard · 21/07/2019 23:33

I get your concerns as I used to worry too.

A gro bag type sleeping bag cannot be pulled over top of baby.

I never used to use blankets either.

Nicknacky · 21/07/2019 23:35

Does he need a blanket or a sleeping bag?

HeadintheiClouds · 21/07/2019 23:38

I think a 9 month old would be safe enough with a blanket. It’s only tiny babies who can’t move themselves when they overheat that are at risk of suffocating

If you're in England, it's far too hot for a sleeping bag anyway. Put them in a sleepsuit or vest with no coverings. They will be absolutely fine. Both of ours (2 and 6 months) have had nights recently where they've ended up just in nappies, they're so hot.

userabcname · 22/07/2019 08:43

I never ever put DS in a sleeping bag - he has always had blankets and always been fine. Just tuck it in securely.

AppropriateAdult · 22/07/2019 10:46

At 9 months the risk of suffocation from a blanket would be almost non-existent. Is that what you're worried about? You could tuck it in at waist level if you're really concerned, or just leave it off entirely, unless you're somewhere much cooler than the UK.
