To think that Slimming World is a nasty organisation?

I'm not sure if anyone else is aware but Pinch of Nom, the hugely popular healthy eating and 'diet friendly' cookbook, have released a statement saying that they have been told to remove all mention of SW from their books and websites. This follows on from SW threatening to sue Aldi for launching a new healthy eating range that they thought was too similar to their own (they failed at this, obviously it's much harder to bully and intimidate a large international company...).

They've also made threats towards butchers and cafes for launching SW friendly produce. It's ridiculous. What are they so scared of? Funny that Weight Watchers don't have a problem with POM, also funny that SW haven't gone after WW for alterning their plan to make it similar to SW. See above about bullying large companies.

Ive long had issues with SW and believe it to be a money grabbing cult that doesn't really promote a healthier lifestyle, and this for me just proves it. Targeting small business trying to make a living just makes them seem really petty and nasty.

Don't get me started on all the wanky termonolgy they use like 'body magic' and 'image therapy either. How people sit through the meeting and don't piss themselves laughing at all that rubbish is a mystery?

I hate that they blame ‘not having enough syns’ If your weight loss slows - so I’m actually not losing weight because I’m not having the crisps and chocolates!

Serin · 23/07/2019 16:11

I thought the science behind slimming world had been disproved? by people like Michael Mosley.
I thought it was all HIT exercise and low carb these days?
That is certainly what my GP practice recommends.
My Dsis followed slimming world for years and got nowhere. Joe Wickes (bless his heart) turned her life around.

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 23/07/2019 16:20

All diets have a hideous long term track record long term, including slimming world. I lost successfully on SW but didn't keep it off, and I rejoined countless times. All SW really taught me to do was to overeat and ignore my body's satiety signals.

They're entitled to protect their brand though. Countless butchers, cafes etc have calculated the syns of their meals inaccurately, hence they don't like anybody unauthorised to do it.

Coffeeandchocolate9 · 23/07/2019 16:29

A lot of people misunderstand the plan

A lot of (all) consultants all don't understand the scientific and psychology aspects of the plan nearly well enough to help people long term.

This seems quite deliberate on the part of SW; it's in the business' best interests to have repeat custom.

A successfully delivered successful plan would mean rooms full of target members paying £0. SW knows that the majority of people will lose some weight, won't stick to the plan at target and will be back in a few months time.

PON have some lovely recipes I must say. I made their salmon fishcakes last night and they were really nice.

Giantcatbear · 23/07/2019 18:16

Well yeah, that's "calories in, calories out". there's no way any diet can work if you don't follow it!

Gwenhwyfar · 23/07/2019 19:39

"there's no way any diet can work if you don't follow it!"

Well, of course. All this 'it stopped working when I stopped the diet". Um...

cardibach · 23/07/2019 21:30

I hate SW but they d9nt need to protect themselves from PON where I’m concerned. Couldn’t even consider eating from a book with such a hideous name. Nom. Yuck. Sound made to copy the noise of eating with your mouth open Envy < not envy.

SW is for those too weak minded to simply say NO.

Jeez is there any need to be such a bitch?

The support of others and/or the structure of a programme can be really valuable for ppl. Food sues can be tough to overcome.

Pinkarsedfly · 23/07/2019 22:35

contentedsoul you sure your nickname is accurate? Mean people are rarely contented souls.

contentedsoul · 23/07/2019 22:57

Well its often said the truth hurts, so there it is!
I could gloss it over and make it ever so subtle, or I could simply state the bottom line....
So, I'll say it as it is......yet you all knew that anyway!!

TwistinMyMelon · 23/07/2019 23:02

I think if you have a very poor diet to start with you will lose weight on slimming world. I struggle to lose weight on it and find the food is poor quality and too carby.

Having tried lots of diets I now low carb - lots of good quality food and healthy fats and I actually lose weight.

But each to their own I guess. I think SW should be thanking PoN for giving them so much publicity!

LaurieMarlow · 23/07/2019 23:03

What made you think you needed to say anything at all? Confused

AmateurSwami · 23/07/2019 23:10

Yes!

RainbowPanda · 23/07/2019 23:44

SW is for those too weak minded to simply say NO.
Its pretty obvious - eat less shit and work a little harder.

Nasty. Reported.

Curious though. What do you say about people with anorexia?

Northernsoulgirl45 · 24/07/2019 00:32

I do slimming world as I need weekly weigh ins to keep me on track but follow the plan completely no.
I like to calorie count and it works for me.
It is crazy that a 450 calorie sw meal iis free but a 300 calorie ready meal is syned!

tabulahrasa · 24/07/2019 07:29

“and find the food is poor quality and too carby.”

I don’t understand what you mean?

You’re doing your shopping and choosing to eat that amount of carbs...nothing about slimming world means you have to buy a certain quality of ingredients and the free carbs are under your control...

stopitandtidyupp · 24/07/2019 07:51

I went last night as I enjoy the group just not the diet.
Star week was used twice. Hmm

ambereeree · 24/07/2019 08:09

@contentedsoul that's a bit cruel. Some people diet better with a support network.

00100001 · 24/07/2019 08:12

"find the food is poor quality and too carby."

What.... vegetables...lean meat... Fresh fruit....

Oh yes , all terrible quality... Confused

noodlenosefraggle · 24/07/2019 08:14

What contentedsoul said is only what other people are saying on this thread. At least she didn't sugar coat it!

tomhardyfan · 24/07/2019 08:21

I lost around 2 stone using a joe wickes book obviously with exercise as well as I tried slimming world and didn't really like the meals you could have.
I think everyone is different though l.

ImMeantToBeWorking · 24/07/2019 12:58

@HippyMama90

It's annoying that you can have unlimited Muller lights which are full of artificial sweeteners.

This was something that annoyed me when I was in it a few years ago, it has now changed and muller lights have a syn value though.

ImMeantToBeWorking · 24/07/2019 13:02

I order a PON book recently, it arrived yesterday and I took a flick through it, I was a bit annoyed that there isn't a mention of syns in it. Their online recipes do, so I assumed their books would. The one I got does not. Means I have to check online for the syns. Defeats the purpose a bit for me. I could have just printed them off the website for free and had the syn value on it!
