Is it cos I've got too much stuff in the loft Blush is it just a cosmetic issue?

How old is your house?

wowfudge · 21/07/2019 10:48

What have got up there and did the crack only appear once you'd put whatever it was up there?

Aph413 · 21/07/2019 10:49

Is the stuff in the loft directly onto the ceiling? If so I'd get that sorted pronto. Part of it does just look like a cosmetic crack along the edge of the plasterboard though.

Herocomplex · 21/07/2019 10:51

Is the loft boarded out, or is it just joists? If it’s just joists and you’ve got stuff resting on the places in between then maybe.
Is it corner to corner?

I never worry about crack in the ceiling. I would be more worried about cannabis in the attic.

Celticrose · 21/07/2019 10:56

We had a crack in our bedroom ceiling but no loft as we were in the loft conversion. It was a kind of a oval shape. One night as I slept downstairs (I snore Blush) the plaster came down onto the bed giving DH the fright of his lifeShock. So I would perhaps have someone look at it

Is the stuff in the loft directly onto the ceiling?

Yes but it's also above other parts of the ceiling which don't have cracks in.

Yes the loft floor is boarded.

That would worry me. I’d want it checked out.

Pipandmum · 21/07/2019 11:02

It might be water damage . A crack not quite as big appeared in the hall. No discolouration. Next time it rained little drops came through. If loft is boarded unless your stuff is pretty heavy it should be ok, but if it’s an old house the joists might not be strong enough to support significant weight - mine wouldn’t for sure.

poppermost · 21/07/2019 11:04

A lot of the stuff in the loft is bags of old kids clothes which collectively I suppose is quite heavy. I'm gonna sort it all out today and get rid of most of it!

If the loft is boarded out the weight is spread across the whole floor and it’s unlikely to affect the ceiling below.

Get it checked
