To want to go back to this event

Basically we spent £100 on two tickets to go to an airshow and it got rained out and most of it was cancelled. We spent hours waiting in the rain with our toddler and spent even more money on overpriced food. 2yo DS really enjoyed the helicopter tricks - he loves airplanes so I knew he'd love seeing them up close - but he was probably not that happy at being stuck in his stroller under a rain cover.

The event was repeated today (weather was good, almost everything was flying) and will on again tomorrow. I really want to go - I adore airshows, not been for 2 years, and for various reasons this is the last one I'll see for another two years. DH said adamantly no, he found the whole thing exhausting. I would be willing to go on my own and take DS with me, though it wouldn't be easy looking after him on my own. There's space to let him run around but he's always looking for trouble, I'd be constantly chasing him. I'd also have to take a train and shuttle bus too as I don't drive - it's going to be a 12h day including transport. I could leave DS with DH but for other reasons it would be unfair on DH who needs a break and also needs to get some work done. And I think DS would love it.

Am I being crazy for wanting to go?

Naaahhh, go and have fun with DS.

SospanFrangipan · 20/07/2019 22:59

Do it! We watched a live feed from RIAT this morning and I'm gutted we didn't go! Currently looking for accommodation for next year!! Our DS is also 2 and plane mad! Go and enjoy yourselves!

😁 Thanks! Broached it again with DH - he grumbled but offered to drop us off! I'm a bit nervous about having DS wander around in big crowds. Might keep him on a leash!

In all seriousness though why don't you buy some reins or a wrist strap thing? Might be a good idea if you're on your own

NoSquirrels · 20/07/2019 23:12

No shame in a wrist-strap or a toddler backpack for a 2 year old, especially in a very busy environment.

You'll be fine, though. Your attention will be on DS 100% so you can enjoy it and do what he finds fun.

Go next year instead as your Dr will be older and appreciate it more. It was a shame about the weather yesterday. I'm assuming this was RAF Fairford show? We live not too far from it so we see all the fly pasts for free every year, sitting in our back garden.

But... OP has free tickets (replacement tickets) for tomorrow. Next year will be another £100.
And.. she can't go next year!

Mummy3574 · 20/07/2019 23:54

I definitely can't go next year, and probably not the year after - we're moving abroad to a place where they don't do airshows!

I didn't get free tickets - I did email to ask and got an automated email saying they'd get back to me in 28 days! So I have to shell out for new tickets!

Anyway it's all moot, I've just booked for myself and DS, and in an enclosure as well to reduce the risk of losing him! It's a lot of money but I know we'll both have a great time!

Just jealous! We live about 1h away so all day I could hear planes but couldn't see them 😭
