Do I need to tell the school or social services or do nothing?

We live across the road from a busy village pub. There’s a very large beer garden that often has bouncy castles up in it.
The pub garden is often very very busy and quite often the atmosphere changes after 5pm when it’s more lads/workers sort of pub if that makes sense?!
Anyway neighbour has two dd’s one aged 8 one 9 they are very often over there on their own. So would need to cross a 40 mile an hour road that separates our estate from the pub.
I’ve been over there in the the evening with friends and the girls are there by themselves at 7-8pm. Friends have mentioned seeing them there without parents at 9pm regularly.
I am a worrying by nature so don’t know if I’m overthinking this but this can’t be safe for two Young girls surely?

No absolutely not safe or appropriate. And the pub should be all over this too. Terrible

HollyGoLoudly1 · 20/07/2019 20:20

I didn't think children were allowed in pubs without an adult? What are they doing while they're there, just playing on the bouncy castle all day?

Wishfulmakeupping · 20/07/2019 20:22

They don’t go in the pub I don’t think just stay outside in the play area within the beer garden. I’m assuming the parents think of it as a park but it’s not it’s lively with groups after 5-6pm if I’m over there with my dc I usually leave at that point

Report it without a doubt. It's not safe for many reasons.

KeepHimJolene · 20/07/2019 20:26

Perhaps mention it to the landlord. Let them decide if they wish to be babysitters or take action or you could find their father is over the pub with them in which case there is no issue

IvanaPee · 20/07/2019 20:27

I’d probably mention it to the pub owners.

I’m surprised they’ve never noticed!

IamWaggingBrenda · 20/07/2019 20:28

That’s ridiculous and not safe. I work in a library and even we don’t allow unaccompanied children under 10!

tuesdayschild1 · 20/07/2019 20:30

Yes definitely report it. They are vulnerable

Paddingtonthebear · 20/07/2019 20:31

I actually think it’s worse if they are outside alone rather than inside the pub with an adult.

I guess people have different standards. I No way would I leave my kids that age alone in a pub garden or anywhere like that alone. The recent Sarah Payne documentary finalised that for me.

Wishfulmakeupping · 20/07/2019 20:36

It’s a ‘chain’ pub so they have different duty managers and the outdoor bar staff tend to be the younger student type workers hence why I think they haven’t picked up on it so much. Obviously schools out for summer hols now so do I report to social services if so can I do this anonymously I don’t want to start a war with neighbours

I would mention it to the duty manager next time they're over there. I shouldn't think their insurance would cover unaccompanied children, so for that reason alone they should take notice.

viques · 20/07/2019 20:57

I would forget about the duty manager, I would be contacting the head office of the chain. A pub licence is not guaranteed to be renewed if the place is poorly run. I think the chain would care more about this than a temporary manager.

IWantMyHatBack · 20/07/2019 21:06

Tell the landlord, the need to know as well

IWantMyHatBack · 20/07/2019 21:07

Oh, missed the last post, sorry

Mummyshark2019 · 20/07/2019 21:10

Report to the landlord and ss

AllFourOfThem · 20/07/2019 21:12

The pub will likely have one manager and they will have a policy in place to be aware of or to look out for certain people, even if it’s the old fashioned method of a picture and description behind the bar. So I would speak to the manager at the pub and it s/he is not there, talk to the deputy or assistant manager who will be able to take action as well.

purplecorkheart · 20/07/2019 21:13

I would email the head office of the chain and ss

barnyb · 20/07/2019 21:34

Report that! That's neglect

BigRedLondonBus · 20/07/2019 22:03

What’s it got to do with the school?? And it’s the holidays anyway
