To think skin prick allergy tests caused a delayed reaction in my Dd?

My Dd age 5 yrs had skin prick tests at hospital to try to determine if she has IgE response to certain foods (the usual.... egg, wheat, milk, soy, plus some that I suspect are bothering her). She has awful eczema and in the last few months rashes and hives too, almost constantly. The tests were negative for IgE allergies, but I was advised she could still have a Non Ig reaction to those foods ( a delayed reaction... in the form of eczema and rashes in her case).
After the skin prick tests her rashes and eczema got much worse over the next 48 hours. AIBU to think that is basically because they just put lots of the foods which I suspect cause her a reaction into her skin? Has this happened to anyone else after a skin prick test?

Sounds typical for a non-igE mediated reaction - as you probably know, there's not any good test for these and a lot comes down to working out yourself what the culprit is, avoiding it and watching symptoms improve with avoidance. Presumably they did the skin prick test for things you already suspected to be problematic?

Thanks Hipho. Yes it was for many of the things I suspect and some I know (strawberry, tomato). So I feel a bit miffed that they didn't warn me she was likely to get covered in rash and eczema! Coupled with no anti histamine for the week leading up, she looks like a walking hive (pretty sure pollens are also a problem so she was already quite bad before the test). Anyway, yes I am now doing elimination and she is being tested for pollens in the winter....

I'd say the combination of no antihistamines and lots of allergens has kicked off her reactions more than usual.

When DD had her skin prick tests she reacted so strongly we nearly used the epipen. She had hives breaking out spontaneously over her whole body.

I've also had a delayed systemic reaction to allergy shots - only once, but they've told me if it happens again to go straight to the ER.

Dr sausage do you mean your DD had a non igE reaction, but got negatives on the skin prick test? And if so did they warn you that could happen?
