To wonder if you can upset your neighbours by taking dogs on too many walks?

Sorry if this is a weird one, it's not about me personally but I just want to gage public opinion. Since my dad retired he has been bored and likes to take their 2 dogs for walks multiple times a day. He might go out for 5 walks a day in the neighbourhood. I never thought much of it but recently he is not been getting along with his neighbours. I'm not there so I don't really know what's going on. I'm wondering though could it be that people are upset that he is going for all these walks?

If your neighbour walked past your house like 5 times a day to walk his dogs would you think it's suspicious? It's honestly just because he's bored and the dogs love it.

For voting purposes

YABU = the neighbours will find it suspicious
YANBU = he's retired and walking a dog so it's fine to go for many walks a day

It’ll be the barking. Not how often he walks the dogs. Barking dogs are a PITA.

Bambamber · 20/07/2019 22:38

I'm in and out of my house multiple times day and my dog is usually with me. No one has ever made any strange comments to me and I honestly can't see why anyone would care how many times the dogs go out. Unless of course they are causing problems. You mention barking, I would imagine it's the barking that's the problem, not the simple fact they're going out a lot.

TildaKauskumholm · 20/07/2019 22:44

The barking. Why not suggest that if he's so bored he could actually train the yappy little thing not to bark... I would not be pleased with a neighbour like that.

Why would anyone be bothered when a neighbour goes past your house 5 times a day? Unless they actually go to their property. It seems pretty normal amount. I'm sure people go in and out if their house more than that daily. There is something more going on.

Not with a yapping dog.

DF is retired and walked the dog for miles, multiple times a day until he passed away last year (lovely dog, not DF he's fit and well). Neighbours were actually concerned not seeing him out and about so much. Long story short he now walks dogs for two neighbours during the day having remorseful they were paying dog walkers, and refuses any payment so they bake for him, which he enjoys! I don't see why having an active retired neighbour is an issue to anyone, you say he's picking up after the dog and it's on a lead.

My neighbour walks his dog multiple times a day, which is absolutely fine...except he uses the strip of grass opposite my house for blatant ‘emptying’ of his dog (going backwards and forwards until dog pees or shits) which pisses me off as a. All the local children play on the strip of grass and b. The strip of grass is actually owned by another neighbour, who mows it conscientiously and is happy for the children to play there. Is your dad ‘emptying ’ his dog in this way?

Fruitbatdancer · 20/07/2019 23:35

Does he let the dog shit on their lawn? Does the other dog bark the whole time the other is gone? Does he wear nothing but a string vest? Does he sing while he walks or blow a whistle? Does the dog act aggressively and scare everyone shitless? Does he slam the door? Does he smoke a joint while walking? Unless the answer to any of the above is yes then it’s fine. YANBU.

Esspee · 20/07/2019 23:58

Does he allow the dog to "go" on the neighbour's grass? I know he picks it up but dogs weeing and pooing on my grass really annoys me.

motherheroic · 21/07/2019 08:04

It's obviously the high pitched barking from the little dog that's pissing them off.

It’s horrible living in suburbia for that reason, but the neighbours ABU, not your dad.
