School summer holidays

Aibu to ask your plans for the summer so I can steal ideas. Preferably around London and the south east.

I’m super excited to break up today. I know some parents dread it but I’m so happy, I’m also off work. Although ask me again in 2 weeks I may change my mind Grin

I want to fill the summer with fun days out, but as cheap as possible. Every year I’m so optimistic until I realise I have nothing exciting to do, lose motivation to leave the house, and when I do plan something good the kids argue non stop. But here I am, with my eternal optimism looking for fun ideas before my hopes and dreams are shattered Wink

Imustbemad00 · 19/07/2019 21:56

Sorry, one teen who’s not interested in doing anything with us and one 6 year old.

Planning a beach trip, some museums have fun things going on, water fountains, going to visit some of the bigger parks Richmond ect.

Mine are 10 and 11 and I'm planning bike rides, home disco with homemade biscuits, swimming, visiting a couple of new parks in the next town, farmers markets, and camping in the garden!

Imustbemad00 · 19/07/2019 21:58

Any ideas for the teen would be great too, so difficult.

Have you got a national trust membership? It’s well worth using, we have Historic Scotland up here which is great, I think English Heritage may be the English equivalent and again it’s been great value.

museummumblog · 20/07/2019 08:37

Pleased steal away, I have 50 ideas for families in London over the summer holidays in this post museummum.com/2019/07/13/summer-holidays-2019-50-things-to-do-in-london-with-the-kids/. It includes free things, outdoor activities and ideas for teens too (I have 3 kids aged 5 to 16). Let me know which ones you like the sound of!

Stoptheworldpleasethankyou · 20/07/2019 08:40

I never plan anything apart from a couple of holidays. Everything else is spontaneous.

They need time to relax and just be, find themselves be bored for a day or two.

Teenager will likely want to chill with teenage mates.

if you are anywhere near addlestone we like top golf. it's a driving range but do offers in holidays so 2 games and lunch for £10.

londonloves · 20/07/2019 08:55

How old is teen?
Could you go to South Bank to watch the skaters? That might be cringey though depending how old they are.

DeathMetalMum · 20/07/2019 09:10

We asked dd's to make us a list of things they would like to do in the holidays. They're 6&8 so lots of things are simple like baking, going on bike rides, going to the park etc, some are things we don't do regularly though so we will tick things off on their list as we go through the holidays.

GoldenBlue · 20/07/2019 09:15

Rutland water or Billing Aquadrome have inflatable courses on the water that look fun for the older one.
Groupon vouchers available for the billing one so makes it cheaper.

nocutsnobuttsnococonuts · 20/07/2019 09:44

I live in South East, I highly recommend a trip to Portsmouth dockyard, great fun for the whole family and if your teen is interested in history I'm sure they would like it. We had annual passes and went 3-4 times still found new things each time.

Or west quay shopping outlets are right there too to drop teen to!

Brighton is easy to get to from London, although head to the beaches towards hove/portslade as they are quieter.

Tilgate park is a fabulous day out, loads of wooded area, park and nature bit with animals. has go ape there aswell.
