Chicken pox vaccine

I’m not being unreasonable I don’t think but my daughter I think has the pox. My son hasn’t had it and he’s severely underweight at the minute and not going great I wanna get him vaccinated asap. How on earth do I do it? I can’t find anything particular on the internet do I call gp? I know I have to pay and that’s fine!

I don’t think you can get it via your GP unless your son falls into one of their specific risk categories. My GP surgery doesn’t offer the option to pay. Boots offer it - you can book an appointment on their website. It’s two jabs, spaced apart by six weeks but the child has to be 2 or over.

Banananas · 19/07/2019 19:39

I did my DS this week. I googled Chickenpox vaccine boots. The website sorted an appointment for the next day and I ticked some boxes.
On arrival we went through the questions, I have calpol, pharmacist did the jab and I paid.
Job done.

1 or over for the chickenpox vaccine.

Jakie7700 · 19/07/2019 19:50

Had my DS vaccinated at boots recently. Booked the appointment online very quick and easy.

We did our dd through citydoc - out of a local pharmacy. They have to be over one.

AmIRightOrAMeringue · 19/07/2019 20:07

Used city doc out of a local pharmacy as well. They offered appointments really quickly.

FudgeBrownie2019 · 19/07/2019 20:09

A clinic in our nearest city vaccinates children for CP and I'd heartily recommend it. Just Google your local private vaccination centre.

Littlebelina · 19/07/2019 20:17

Those who had it done via citydoc can I ask how much it was? Looking into it for dd for when she hits one. Our boots do it for £140 if we book both doses but we have a citydoc clinic so was wondering how it compares?

My son had his done at Superdrug. Was £65 per jab with two jabs needed. So relieved as soon as it was done

choirmumoftwo · 19/07/2019 20:24

Not sure your son will be able to have it as he could already be incubating chickenpox due to contact with your daughter.

TheDarkPassenger · 19/07/2019 20:27

Sorry he’s 8!

I thought I saw somewhere he can have it even after contact? Will he be immune from first vaccine enough to see him through his sisters’ bout of them?

I got my dd vaccinated in Boots, £140 for both (but did it when they had £10 off a £50 spend, so got it for £120.

Utini · 19/07/2019 20:42

Anyone could already be incubating chickenpox! It's supposed to be fairly effective at preventing chickenpox if given within 5 days of exposure (ideally within 3).

A friend did this when her DS was in contact with her cousin who came down with it the next day. They were due to go on holiday a week or so later and she was worried about him getting it while they were away. She thinks he then got it very mildly - a handful of spots but no sign that he felt ill.

SospanFrangipan · 19/07/2019 20:47

We had DS done at Superdrug. He had been in contact and they advised to wait two weeks after contact to Makesure he hadn't already contracted it. Definitely worth doing!

ems137 · 19/07/2019 20:55

I was also told about the 5 day thing. If you can get the jab within 5 days of knowingly coming into contact with CP then it was give him some immunity so he either might not get it at all or just get a milder dose.

I had one child done at a fairly local nhs surgery that had the option of paying a private prescription and the other child done at Superdrug. I didn't wait 6 weeks between jabs, I asked for 4 weeks between.

myself2020 · 19/07/2019 20:57

My youngest had his vaccinations 2 dats after contact (coincidence, had been booked months in advance). he was the only child in his nursery group who didn’t get chickenpox.

Have a look on here and see if there's a superdrug near you that offer it:
