On the bus sitting at the back and in the seats in front of me there's a little boy and his mum. LB probably about 3? I don't know.
For the whole 45 min journey he was asking her if they were there yet, and she didn't answer him or say anything to him once!

I felt like I was being tortured haha! Even I fucking wanted to know if they were there yet!

They got on the bus after me so I know she had not answered his question on the bus.

AIBU to think she should have responded / distracted....anything ?

I do see this a lot though, people ignoring repetitive questions. My kids aren't old enough yet so I don't yet understand it, but is there a reason? Have they put in ear plugs so that they can cope?!

She probably deals with it daily and has just had enough Grin

My kids have to have things repeated to them in 45 different ways before they'll stop asking the same question. Sometimes I just give up.

My son had his last induction day at primary school today, it’s a twenty minute walk. For the entire morning (and walk) he asked “what snack are we having?” I answered him three times, after that I ignored him to preserve the small amount of sanity that I still have.

He is currently throwing lego around his room, I’m also ignoring that to get some alone time, he was knackered after school and had a nap, so there is no way he will be asleep by 7pm tonight.

Elmo311 · 19/07/2019 17:17

@GruciusMalfoy kids ey! Can't wait 'till mine are like this (!)

OP posts:
Elmo311 · 19/07/2019 17:19

@SimonJT I actually did laugh out loud at what you wrote!
Try and tire him out for 7!
Sanity saving is needed, but what about other people's sanity when on public transport etc?

I would've moved but there was no where else to go and I was already late!

We are currently on the ferry back from France and we are from Scotland think I've heard this at least 20 times in the last 4hrs Grin

SimonJT · 19/07/2019 17:21

@Elmo311 Sod them, I have to live with him!

Elmo311 · 19/07/2019 17:21

@Allyg1185 You are very patient!

Where would you like me to send your earplugs OP? @Elmo311

I wish you well through this "phase"

Pinktinker · 19/07/2019 17:31

Another one wishing you luck with this phase. I have four DC and they all go through it at some point. It’s frustrating because you can answer it until you’re literally blue in the face but they’ll keep asking.

I remember the noughties film Are We There Yet? Starring Ice Cube Grin. It’s not a new thing, you probably did it as a child too.

Elmo311 · 19/07/2019 17:31

@soberken Oh no, I'm literally dreading it already! It's probably the reason people just give them their mobile phones isn't it 🤪.

OP posts:
Elmo311 · 19/07/2019 17:34

@Pinktinker Thank you for the luck, I think I will definitely need it.
I reckon I did go through the phase, but my parents are Irish Catholic so probably just hit me....

To the question 'Are we nearly there yet?' I used to reply 'No we've got miles and miles to go, so have a little sleep' It worked a lot of the time in the car and on ferries.

I understand that perfectly! However, I can remember repeatedly saying, "Are we nearly there yet?" when I was a kid.

soberken · 19/07/2019 17:53

Spot on @Elmo311 ! I am an avid iPad user

Candyfloff · 19/07/2019 18:57

My DD is going through this at the minute.

I met a friend for dinner the other day with DD and his tiny 8 month old.
DD had said, no less than 15 times, that she wanted pizza before we even got there.
She was still asking in the restaurant and he said to me 'Aw don't ignore her! She's telling you what she wants! I can't wait till xxxx is that age'

I could've jumped across the table and slapped him.
Instead I went for 'Just you wait' and an evil cackle. He soon shut up.

SachaStark · 19/07/2019 19:07

Oh my god, I took a coach load of 40 teenagers on a school trip this week.

They asked me, FOR EIGHT CONSISTENT HOURS (outgoing and return journey), if we could stop to get “Maccies”. Apparently the first several hours of me saying “no” wasn’t clear enough!

Elmo311 · 19/07/2019 19:12

@Candyfloff It's coming to us all!
I may not teach them how to speak Grin

OP posts:
Elmo311 · 19/07/2019 19:13

@SachaStark You poor thing! They should know better as well!

Mmmmmm Maccies!

But don't forget folks, that's what you get folks
For makin' whoopee...……..

Siameasy · 19/07/2019 19:30

My 4 year old does this and I also tell her “best you have a sleep, we might be there when you wake up”
Actually it’s one of the less annoying things she does. The thing that’s doing me in at the moment is the flitting from one thing to another, trying to get every toy/craft item out and seemingly being unable to control urges to roll around on the floor

Elmo311 · 19/07/2019 20:16

@Siameasy It's too late to return them isn't it?! 😀😅

OP posts:
SimonJT · 19/07/2019 20:28

@Elmo311 He has been asleep for about ten minutes, he came close to being put to sleep!

berryhead2013 · 19/07/2019 20:55

Th repetitive questions of a three year old and possibly older make your ears bleed and brain want to die the poor mum had probably had this shit since she woke up this morning and was probably trying not to scream at the child to shut the fcuk up hence her notable silence
I know it's annoying for you but pre kids I was the same I just felt glad I didn't have to deal with it
Get some headphones and some bangin tunes 😂

Elmo311 · 19/07/2019 21:20

@SimonJT 😂😂😂 no more naps after school haha
What will you do during summer hols ?!
What snacks will you have ?
