AIBU to tell her to fuck off if she can't afford it?

So I’m advertising on the next door app for my cleaning services, and this woman decides to send me a long message saying ‘how dare I charge £13 an hour, when the going rate is £8-9 ‘ ‘ people can’t afford it, and I’m being unfair’.

I just feel like there’s millions of cleaners out there advertising, and if she can find one she can afford she should go for that. Why send me a message complaining about the price? I could understand if it was £50 an hour or something like that. I even offered her a discount and said I’d do it for £10 an hour for her first clean, but no she wanted it under a tenner Hmm

I’m in East London btw, and I know people here charge £12-13 an hour.

Just ignore her. You charge what you charge. End of

MyFokMarelize · 19/07/2019 09:55

I'd just ask her why she's wasting her time and yours with this information and she should go ahead and hire one for £8 an hour if there's so many of them!

Chune · 19/07/2019 09:55

Why would you even reply?

User8888888 · 19/07/2019 09:56

That’s insane. You’re not a charity- you can charge what you want.

MichelleC69 · 19/07/2019 09:57

Tell her to eff off. I pay my cleaner £11 an hour and I consider myself very lucky that she charges so little. £13 is entirely reasonable but it has absolutely naff all to do with her.

StinkinDrink · 19/07/2019 09:57

I would feel like telling her to fuck off BUT if you do she would probably slag you off on social media or something so I would smile at the cheek of her and get on with your day. Could she be a rival firm?

IsobelRae23 · 19/07/2019 09:57

Why reply?

PickAChew · 19/07/2019 09:58

In that case, she needs to roll her sleeves up and do her own cleaning, like most of us do.

MummyToBe89 · 19/07/2019 09:58

We pay our cleaner £12 per hour. There's cleaners who charge £15 per hour, it doesn't mean I'm going to message them and abuse them for charging more! Just ignore her, some people have too much time on their hands! Good luck with your business :)

Divebar · 19/07/2019 09:58

You’re running a business... you set the rates that you want. If you’re too expensive then you won’t get any work and will have to re-consider accordingly. If there are lots of cleaners charging £8-£9 as she says then why doesn’t she engage one of them?

Divebar · 19/07/2019 09:59

I pay £12 per hour in Surrey

georgialondon · 19/07/2019 09:59

I'd reply and say 'for you it's £20per hr'.

JoxerGoesToStuttgart · 19/07/2019 09:59

I wouldnt even bother replying to that. Why would you? Her finances aren’t your problem, you aren’t forcing her to hire you.

BigfanofCheese · 19/07/2019 10:00

Unfair?! As though employing a cleaner was a basic human right that you should subsidise! Hilarious and entitled. Just ignore her. You can charge £100 an hour if you want to (not saying you'd necessarily get many takers).

chamenanged · 19/07/2019 10:00

I even offered her a discount and said I’d do it for £10 an hour for her first clean

Why on earth?!

caughtinanet · 19/07/2019 10:01

Why are you engaging with her at all?

MichelleC69 · 19/07/2019 10:02

I think you're mad offering her a discount. It sounds like she'd be a nightmare to work for. Good cleaners are like gold dust (certainly where I live anyway) so you can afford to pick and choose your customers.

Geronimorlassie · 19/07/2019 10:02

Ignore her.

stilldontgiveaf · 19/07/2019 10:02

I get this a lot in my job too. People always wanting something for nothing.

regmover · 19/07/2019 10:02

Why engage and why offer her a discount? I wouldn't have replied at all.

floribunda18 · 19/07/2019 10:03

YANBU. My cleaner charges £15 a hour by the way, and is worth every penny.

cleanerlondon1 · 19/07/2019 10:03

Why reply

Because I genuinely thought if I did a good job, I could 'win her over'.

OP posts:
SeeSomethingSaySomething · 19/07/2019 10:04

I wouldn’t engage with her but I would report her bullying to the moderators tbh.

She seems to be manipulating you to do her dirty work for less than the London Living Wage and that’s not even considering your overheads.

You’re rates are more than fair, especially for London.

Any messages like this, report, block, delete and forget.

bringincrazyback · 19/07/2019 10:05

Of course she's BU, but are you seriously considering telling her to fuck off (in those exact words)? Word gets around about that sort of thing, it wouldn't exactly help your business.

Travis1 · 19/07/2019 10:06

Block and move on, even if you attempted to 'win her over' your work would never be good enough and she would constantly be moaning at you.
