To take a car seat on holiday

Was planning to take my car seat on holiday for the transfer. Other families going on my trip are just going to have their children on their lap (3yo/6mo)

Is it ott to take a car seat? Transfer by minibus in the uk via motorways 30 min journey/abroad by coach 20 min journey.

Thanks

Can't hire a car unfortunately.

I'm really surprised it's not the law on a minibus/taxi tbh

It's no hassle at all to check in a car seat, no, but it's stressful if you're concerned about the fact they might have chucked it around without you knowing about it which would almost certainly compromise its crash worthiness. And taking the seat to the gate gets much harder once you're out of the infant stage which goes onto a pram.

It's not law mainly for reasons of practicality - e.g. exactly your situation where you'd have nowhere to store it when you arrive etc. Plus, the responsibility in private cars to make sure a child uses an appropriate child restraint lies with the driver, rather than the parents (obviously in most cases, the driver is one of the parents) and this wouldn't work very well in a taxi - how many car seats of varying configurations would a driver have to carry around with them just in case? And even if they did have enough seats for all child passengers, a taxi driver doesn't know the age or weight of a child to know if a seat is suitable. And what if the parents argue and say their child doesn't need a seat/won't force the child to get in it etc? Too complicated. So they just say it's not necessary. Obviously if you want to use one you can.
