Neighbour cutting down tree

I think I may be irrationally angry so happy to be told I am being unreasonable.

The neighbours that back on to us had a lovely tree, which on returning home today they seem to have cut down. That, while sad, isn't my AIBU, however there is a giant branch currently laying across the back of our garden which has obviously been cut and just fallen. Recently we have removed our back fence (as it was falling down) and are getting it replaced tomorrow/Saturday. The neighbours don't know this as there is a thick bush on their side which you can't see through.

If there had been a fence in place it would have been destroyed by the falling branch, and I think what I am most irritated by is that they didn't even think to mention that they would be cutting the tree down or take measures to ensure that our property wouldn't be damaged. Plus we now have to chop it all up and dispose of it 🤬

I'm not going to say anything but AIBU to think their approach has been pretty inconsiderate (and want to chuck the branch pieces back over the hedge?!)

Thanks everyone, I accept that I am being irrational - yes it has been a bad day and that probably just makes it more annoying. Unfortunately we can't just push it back over as it is the width of a dinner plate down to a side plate and we need to get it back over a 6/7 ft hedge, so it will need to be chopped up to get it back over. I'm not intending on falling out with the neighbours, hence venting on here rather than to them Smile

I'll see if the fencing guys can help push it back over tomorrow, or work round it while it's getting sorted, luckily my DH is off tomorrow so he can work on it - just frustrating as we could do without sorting that out as well

I get that you can’t just push it over, but why aren’t you asking them to deal with it.

No one appears to be home...

(I sent the DH round as he is less irritable Smile)

YANBU and the tree surgeon should have taken care to ensure that the work did not impact on other properties - mine are very clear about this, even insisting that neighbours are aware work is taking place as part of their health and safety risk assessment.

Feeling better today @Scratchyfluffface ?

Massive overreaction there yesterday op. Imagine how you'd react if there was an actual problem to deal with. Wow you're highly strung!! I hope you've had a better day today!!

Very poor job by their contractor.

Their contractor would known that branches have fallen into your garden.

They should have put a note through your door asking that you contact them for the branches removal.

That's what a reputable contractor would have done.

It sounds like a very large tree if the branch was that thick.

It is a skilled job taking down a huge tree and the potential for damage is real.

I have had 6 large trees of a height of at least 150 ft removed over the past 20 years, and it is not a job for amateurs.
