Are people really that stupid?

I work in a professional role with lots of intelligent people. Or so I thought.....

That bloody FB post about not giving FB permission to use any of their content is doing the rounds again.

I suppose it makes a change from winning a free mobile home, holiday or iPhone.......

I really do despair of people sharing these things. Whenever I point out that they are fake, they always say "oh better safe than sorry". No! They're harvesting data!!

MyOpinionIsValid · 17/07/2019 20:56

As stupid as MN posters calling the DM wankity wankers and not authorising use of their words?

Passthecherrycoke · 17/07/2019 20:58

I don’t understand why people put energy into getting annoyed by these things. It’s almost like it’s a hobby

I once had to reply all to an all-departmental email from Head of Department (at a university) to politely point out how absurd it was.

It was just after the London bombings and people were being reminded that the continental European emergency number, 112, also works in the UK if you can't get an answer on 999. So far so reasonable. But this email claimed 112 would also work on the tube and anywhere else you had no signal. By magic I assume.

One of my senior managers shared a picture of a dog with ham on its face believing it had been burned in a fire. This is a woman who manages multiple accounts has a myriad of responsibilities at work, has 3 different degrees and an MA. It baffles me how she’d fall for something so stupid and obvious.

CardinalCopia · 17/07/2019 21:00

Never ceases to amaze me how many supposedly intelligent people out there really think luxury cars are unclaimed and holidays are given away etc
The latest is theme park passes, because obviously you're going to be given free tickets to alton towers for clicking share aren't you? Idiots.

I can't believe how many of my FB friends, who hold senior positions - including Paramedics, Doctors and Nurses shared this exact post either.... makes you think! 🤔

TwoPupsandaHamster it’s truly baffling! Grin

My colleague, who has held down a professional role for more than 30 years, during a GDPR discussion:

Colleague: Why do I have to sign to say I know my information might be sent to America?
Boss: Because at the moment we use Microsoft cloud storage.
Colleague: But I'm not going to America.
Boss: Huh?
Colleague: Well don't the photos stay close to your phone in case you need them quickly?
Boss: What do you mean?

After much conversation, it turns out my colleague believed excess data buzzed around your head in a tiny invisible cloud until you needed it again.
