To cancel my MOLE removal?

MorbidlyObeseWhale · 17/07/2019 13:19

I’ve had the pre op assessment and surgery is at the end of the month. Two moles, one on jawline (which is big and fluffy) and one smaller, paler and more solid one on my crooked witch nose. It’s more noticeable because of where it is (under left eye, upper witch nose).

I’m shitting myself. Nurse said they will have stitches and will bruise and swell initially. I’m going to look like shrek.

I know the marks fade over time but I’ll be like this for weeks!! Not too bothered about the jawline one but the nose one is going to be so awful, painful and noticeable.

Are you having them removed for cosmetic reasons?

LIZS · 17/07/2019 13:21

It won't be weeks and once healed you can use makeup.

MidsomerBurgers · 17/07/2019 13:22

Don't cancel it.

I had one removed from my jaw line. The local anaesthetic stings like buggery when they put it in, but only for a few seconds. They might use diathermy which feels a bit warm but you won't feel any pain. Only takes a few minutes or so.

I was absolutely fine after that. No pain, minimal swelling and bruising. Take paracetamol when necessary.

PetitTorteois · 17/07/2019 13:24

I have had a mole removed on my face and body. Neither left a bruise. I could only see a few stitches and that was it! You will be fine. Once you have had it done you will think it was totally worth it. Good luck

MorbidlyObeseWhale · 17/07/2019 13:24

The jawline one is a little dodgy looking, hurts a bit and itches so that was a precautionary one. The one on my nose is more cosmetic as it’s so obvious. Consultant said he’d take that off too which I thought was nice of him!

Stitches come out after 6 days apparently

Apply apple cider vinegar, with the mother, on a bit of cotton wool, use a plaster to stick it on. Remove after 30 minutes. Do it once a day until it falls off. No pain.

Done it myself on a huge witch looking like on my cheek. I can't even pinpoint where the mole was now...

SleepingSoul · 17/07/2019 13:25

I had a mole and another lump removed from my nose, was warned about stitches and scarring but they did an amazing job and honestly you wouldn't know unless you looked closely that there was a scar. I think stitches were in for about 9 days and it didn't look great but looked much improved once they were out. It's a small price to pay if they're concerned about the moles.

It’s amazing that surgeons feel they need to do operations to remove moles with such a great alternative treatment out there.

Oh wait...

allinmyhead12 · 17/07/2019 13:27

I know it seems scary having one removed off my chin but its worth it in the end. I wish i could get another one removed off my nose, unfortunately for me its on the end and i was told as a teenager that it wouldn't be possible.
not good when small children call you a witch!!

Painting a wonderful image of myself im sure to all of you.

Sunshinelollypops01 · 17/07/2019 13:28

Get them removed. My brother had on hidden under his beard and never told anyone. When he did tell the dr it was to late. He ended up having major surgery on his neck and jaw. Turnrd out it was a very rare cancer.
Not saying that is what yours is.
Good luck 💐

bridgetreilly · 17/07/2019 13:29

Well, you could look like Shrek for a few days, or one of them might turn cancerous. Seems pretty clear cut to me: don't cancel the op.

orangeshoebox · 17/07/2019 13:31

don't cancel.
a good surgeon (and NHS surgeons are generally very good) will remove the moles with minimal scarring.
get some vit e creams and do not let any sunlight onto the area for a while. it will heal but it will take a few months.

good luck!

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 17/07/2019 13:31

Don't chicken out now; total waste of NHS resources to get you to this point. Thousands of other people have had it done; you'll be fine.

Potential skin cancer or being a bit sore and self conscious for a few days? Confused

butteriesplease · 17/07/2019 13:32

I've recently had a mole removed from my arm. the worst bit is the anaesthetic.
Just get it done.
Mine was removed by a nurse practitioner.
Make sure you get clear instructions on looking after the wound and if you have to keep it dry for a period of time etc etc. you know you have to have it removed so that they can send it to the path lab to check it's not cancerous. You CANNOT fuck about with this kind of stuff. I know you are just nervous (I was ) but it will be fine and I'm sure no scar.

My mum had 2 moles removed from her face when she was about 70 - no scar at all.

PurpleDaisies · 17/07/2019 13:32

Definitely have the jaw line one done, the nose one is up to you.

MatildaTheCat · 17/07/2019 13:33

Had this done myself and the scars are totally invisible and I’m extremely fair skinned and scar easily. It will be fine.

NoBaggyPants · 17/07/2019 13:34

I've had four different lots of moles and lumps removed, never had anything more than a bit of discomfort. Always had soluble stitches too, but that would be up to the consultant.

If there's any possibility of them being cancerous then get them removed. And avoid any muppets offering miracle cures of cider vinegar!

CSIblonde · 17/07/2019 13:35

I've had one removed off my neck & one off my back. No pain or bruising but they were burnt off not cut then stitched. I'd do it, any after effect won't last very long & E45 cream was great when my neck scarred a tiny bit: as it was on the thin skin over my Adams apple. No scars at all now.

BillyCongo · 17/07/2019 13:39

Don't cancel. If it is cancerous it can spread into your lymph system.... Get them removed ASAP.

CloudRusting · 17/07/2019 13:41

Put your big girl pants on and get them done.

MorbidlyObeseWhale · 17/07/2019 13:45

Ok I’ll have it done. I’m just scared. I don’t handle pain well at all and I’m scared on the injection. Plus I’ll have a brand new puppy and I’m worried she will pull the stitches out accidentally

Don't Cancel. I've had numerous mole removals and they don't hurt.

Juells · 17/07/2019 13:59

Best reason ever for not having a mole removed Grin Talk about a stretch! I had one removed from my temple, and was dreading it. I was genuinely shocked at how well local anaesthetic worked - I'd had the vague idea that it just dulled the pain, but I literally couldn't feel a thing. Stitches came out after six days, I'd have to use a magnifying mirror now to see the scar.

Dotty1970 · 17/07/2019 13:59

Few switches for a short time or potential cancerous mole and unsightly mole... No brainer is it not! Confused
And regarding the puppy... Don't put your face near it! Simple!

orangeshoebox · 17/07/2019 14:02

I had a mole removed from near the eye.
tbh getting the local injected was the worst part.
hardly any pain afterwards. and the skin healed so well it's invisible and I forget it was ever there.
