I’m injured after accident or would cook. I need to buy ready meals for a poorly relative to help while they’re unable / not in mood to cook or think of foods.
I know I’m not BU really but traffic here is good. Please can you tell me best supermarket and meals? Traditional tastes so no spicy/ off the wall stuff please.
Thank you all!

Oh yes the Sainsbury’s traditional dinners (lamb in red wine sauce, beef and mushroom stew, pork casserole etc) are very good too. I think they do a premium range. Pricey but worth it in terms of what you get for it.

Jsmith99 · 17/07/2019 15:16

Charlie Bingham are the best supermarket ready meals but they are v expensive.

M&S are very good, particularly the Gastropub range. The standard meals are also very good.

I prefer Tesco Italian meals range to Sainsbury’s.

stucknoue · 17/07/2019 15:17

Failing that, try local cafes/caterers, they may be willing to cook up a months worth (4-6 portions of each dish). I did this once for a friend of a friend on a commercial basis, worked out a similar price to ready meals

The good thing about Iceland is free delivery over £35 so you get quite a bit for your money

user87382294757 · 17/07/2019 15:17

Online I mean

SlothMama · 17/07/2019 15:44

M&S do nice ones, even their healthier ranges are nice meals. Not too badly priced either!

PetrichorRain · 17/07/2019 15:47

Seconding recs for M&S. The do a relaly nice Bistro range - so you can get eg a chicken kiev for one, plus ready prepped veg/potatoes/chips and bung the lot in the oven.

PetrichorRain · 17/07/2019 15:48

No, sorry - Gastro range not Bistro!

JennyBlueWren · 17/07/2019 16:03

It all depends on your/their taste. There are lots of good ready meals available and a wide range of dietary needs (vegan, healthier, traditional or more innovative) and with different prices.
I tend to choose the ones with plenty of vegetables in as some can be quite lacking.
I'm a meat eater but do really like the Vegan meals from Tesco.

Wiltshire farm foods. Cover all tastes and deliver. Would highly recommend

Whoopstheregomyinsides · 17/07/2019 17:04

Had s look at Wiltshire farm foods but the pics were very uninspiring somehow. Maybe they taste better than they look?

Every now and again we do a "Tesco Finest Diet" for a week or two and have a tesco finest ready meal every evening (I only choose ones below 650 kcals, which is most of them). Most contain plenty of vegetables. We also have a tuna light lunch and fruit for lunch. We always lose a couple of pounds each and really enjoy the meals. HOWEVER it isn't a cheap way of eating, otherwise we would probably do most of the time.

Booboo66 · 18/07/2019 16:53

If they like bland then really anywhere will do. All the posher ones being suggested would just be a waste of money. I think Iceland or any supermarket standard range would be fine. Tesco do a lovely sausage, mash and gravy in a giant Yorkshire pud for a couple of quid.

freshasthebrightbluesky · 18/07/2019 17:26

Iceland sell a range of ready meals and, even though they're cheap, they're really nice.

Gracie300 · 18/07/2019 17:28

I find Waitrose ready meals mainly pretty bad! Miles better in M&S for pretty much the same cost.

Ninkaninus · 18/07/2019 17:31

Yes I totally agree, Waitrose ready meals are really not very nice and not worth the price for me (except for the Chinese dumplings, I do like those). M&S are much, much better.

Sooverthemill · 18/07/2019 17:33

Wiltshire farm foods are very good and the right portion sizes for elderly people and they deliver ( and will put in freezer if you wish). I rate them very highly, did a regular order for my dad in his last years

COOK does home delivery

BertrandRussell · 18/07/2019 18:05

I would go with Morrison’s. Get a home delivery then you can add some nice salad, fruit and chocolate as well. Most of their ready meals can be frozen. There’s a ham in mustard sauce with mash and peas that my ds says is the most delicious thing he’s ever eaten.

MuchTooTired · 18/07/2019 18:10

Sainsbury’s do a great selection, and are reasonably priced. M&S broccoli cheese is amazing, and I do like their other ready meals, but Sainsbury’s deliver.

MatildaTheCat · 18/07/2019 18:19

Wiltshire are not nice. Unfortunately if you rely purely on ready meals they all start to taste quite factory produced. Can your relative make the odd very simple meal, such as jacket potato with salad and ham?
A few fresh meals really liven the week up.

Cook will deliver although the packaging is crazy. After that I would be largely guided by price.

The full meals, ie a roast dinner tend to be less successful than ie a shepherds pie. It’s very easy to boil up some frozen peas or beans etc.

A pouch of rice microwaved with frozen peas and a piece of baked salmon is a beautiful meal and requires almost no preparation or clearing up.

isseywithcats · 18/07/2019 18:34

icelands mid to luxury range ready meals are all fine and you can do online ordering and get them delivered at a specified time slot

PositiveVibez · 18/07/2019 18:38

The slimming world ready meals from Iceland are really nice.

justasking111 · 18/07/2019 19:38

I have tried SW meals too spicy for me and too much tomato. We did have a paella mix from there last night, added some prawns and it was very tasty.
