To Expect Antibiotics in this Situation - Any Medics Out There ??

Genuine question & I don't know if IABU to feel peed off...

I have all the symptoms of a kidney infection, of which I have a lot of history & so know the symptoms too well. Started vomiting on Friday night & was up most of the night & have been struggling for over a week, but by Saturday it was much more obvious what it could be.

I have stage 3 kidney disease, caused by repeat infections in my 20s & my own GP knows too well that I hate accepting meds as I'm very prone to the worst of the side effects & have had some scary times as a result, so I don't chase meds without good reason. Plus I prefer to look after my kidneys & have managed to keep the CDK stable for over 20 years.

Telephone appointment on Monday with a different GP who I've had problems with before (previously refused antibiotics for a sinus infection, despite history of infections due to a pocket of bacteria trapped in my jaw bone that flares up if I'm run down etc, so leaving me ill for longer than necessary & meaning infection got worse & harder to shift). I was asked to drop in a urine sample, which was done. Turns out it was sent straight to the lab, I had to wait for results. Text arrived last night to tell me the result was borderline & to repeat the test, so more time wasted before they treat me

I get this might be normal & good practice with antibiotics if I was otherwise well, but I have CDK3 & at one point they wanted me on daily antibiotics to stop recurring infections, but I've mostly managed that naturally, bar very occasional flare ups which I'm pretty certain I'm dealing with now. My own GP who I couldn't get an appointment with, would have just given me a prescription

AIBU to think that given the CDK3 & risk of more damage from an infection, this is absolutely crap. I genuinely don't know right now, but I'm naturally getting frustrated not helped because I've a big birthday cake to make & that's going to be great fun when I can't stand the smell of food rn, let alone eat🤢

Should have added, very dark urine sample, despite a litre of water drank, which obviously has blood in it, which when I rang to se if any results were in, receptionist said GP was worried about & I know is something I get with infection

They try to avoid giving antibiotics where possible because the bacteria will become immune to their effects over time and will no longer be cured using antibiotics- I'm sure you know this.

Given your medical history, it wouldn't be advisable to prescribe anything without knowing the exact reason you're experiencing problems. They could guess at an infection, or the medication could make your issue worse.

Dark urine like that would suggest it's more a problem with kidney function rather than an infection.

Thank you, I do understand why they don't give them out willy nilly, & hate taking the things as they never agree with me anyway, but the urine result was borderline with some bacteria & a lot of blood.

Without CKD3, I would totally understand repeating the test before any prescription, but with CDK3 ?? As it's not been my previous experience
