Ours came from an ad on Pets4homes. Had no idea this wasn’t good. Dog has been fine though.

Registered breeder
Through a MNer actually, met her through another MNer a quite famous one and we became friend in FB I fell in love with her dogs and she put me in contact with a good breeder near me, a breeder who maybe has one litter every 5 years doesn’t advertise doesn’t need to, her last litter was ours 6 years ago. We went and met her and we were vetted, breeder says she knows the right people for her pups. Anyway 6 years later my dogs a big daft loon!

When I was growing up I think my Dad came in with a pup from who knows where one night, we got one from a guy across the road and another from my Dads friend. All mongrels, hardly anyone had a pedigree maybe the odd GSD or Jack-Russell but there was no Huskies/French BullDogs/Lhasa Apsos/Pugs or Doodles

sweetkitty · 16/07/2019 23:29

Oh and I’m never buying another dog from a breeder, all my cats are rescues and next dog is going to be a rescue too.

Pavlova31 · 16/07/2019 23:32

A gorgeous little stray who was never claimed by anyone and became ours for seven happy years before passing away🐶😃

Pavlova31 · 16/07/2019 23:33

Found him at the local town centre .

Itswinternow · 16/07/2019 23:35

Breed specific rescue. 😊

ImNotReallyAWaitress · 16/07/2019 23:37

@Malteserdiet and that’s exactly the problem with sites like pets4homes and gumtree.

There are hip scores for a reason, the median is currently 9 and generally a dog with hips over that shouldn’t be bred.
Also there’s elbow scoring, prcd/PRA, CNM, EIC and HNPK. That’s an awful lot of testing to miss and a huge risk with hips & elbows.

Flukes happen but if everyone took that stance the breed would suffer greatly. And those flukes are far more likely to happen where the parents have higher risk for passing on conditions, which you cannot know without testing.
You can’t argue that people on those sites do care about the breed and then say you bred dogs that weren’t health tested.

From a farmer who said she was so rubbish he was going to 'put her in a hole' that night.

It is true she is rubbish at being the Lakeland terrier that she is but we love the bones of her ignorant self

Warmhandscoldheart · 16/07/2019 23:46

From a local rescue.
He came originally from a Travellers's camp in Ireland.

kathmacc · 16/07/2019 23:51

Local rescue centre -we were fostering him until he found a proper home -5 years later.......he’s not going anywhere -or my kids will disown me!

Femodene · 16/07/2019 23:55

A rescue where she was born, 2 from kill pounds, 1 from some scum farmer. I could not, ethically, morally, or emotionally fund and support a breeder. They repulse me, there’s nothing not reprehensible about what they’re doing, whether it’s a ‘good’ breeder, an animal abuser, or someone’s thicko mate down the street. Can’t believe people still support 1000s of dogs, mutts and inbreds, being executed in pounds every day.

Orlandointhewilderness · 17/07/2019 00:01

Spaniel came from a friend who bred a litter from her wonderful working dogs. He's a complete idiot and we love him!
Terrible terrier from a woman I worked with.

Orlandointhewilderness · 17/07/2019 00:03

Oh, neither were KC reg. the spans parents are field trials champions and KC but we weren't fussed enough about paperwork. Well never sell him or breed from him.

Popsicle434544 · 17/07/2019 00:08

We have a labrador, got her at 14 weeks from BIL who has mum and dad and my MIL had the gran of mum and the great gran (both passed).
The family is now putting pressure on us to breed our girl (aint gonna happen) to keep the blood line going

DogbertDogglesworth · 17/07/2019 00:11

I got mine from a licenced, KC registered breeder.
I wanted a pup to train myself and of a particular breed.

thaegumathteth · 17/07/2019 00:18

Obviously this worked for you, but for the benefit of others reading-

There are no good reasons not to register an eligible litter. Usually when the pups are eligible but the breeder doesn’t register it is because the bitch has had too many litters, or is too old or too young, or the sire is too closely related etc.

It’s done to hide something. Most breeds (maybe all) have stipulations on when KC Registering - for example in my breed it’s no more than two litters in a lifetime, not in consecutive seasons and not before the age of 2 and after 6.

mazv1953 · 17/07/2019 00:30

Gumtree - private address, could visit pups and meet their "mother" and the family has lived there for years so not a front for a puppy farm.

Gummybear11 · 17/07/2019 00:32

Is there really any such thing as a responsible breeder? The act of breeding dogs itself is irresponsible when you consider the amount of unwanted dogs being put to sleep.

NCforthis2019 · 17/07/2019 00:36

Registered breeder whom we visited.

caringcarer · 17/07/2019 00:38

I got two puppies from advert on Pets4homes. Both pedigree and all paper work correct. Met puppies in their own home with Dam and saw them feeding from her at 5 weeks and reserved, viewed again at 8 weeks. We collected at 10 weeks after they had received first vaccinations and all vet paperwork re vaccination and stating dogs were healthy came with puppies. They are fabulous dogs, very affectionate and loving with us and child. Breeder asked if we would send photo each year to her and have done so. I know people say not to buy two puppies at once but I am home all day and I trained the dogs individually and it has worked out fine.

danadas · 17/07/2019 00:39

From a Facebook ad. We wanted a puppy not an adult dog and we had been looking at rescues for ages but they had nothing suitable. Then saw an advert for a litter about an hour away.

Purpletigers · 17/07/2019 00:39

A working collie from a farmer for £40 .
Previous dog was a KC registered Wheaten from a relative . She lived until she was 16 .
Previous dog was before I was married and still lived with my parents. He was a GS mix from a rescue and lived until he was 17 . Amazing dog 😍 .
Cats came from a friend , thankfully mother had now been neutered as she had had a few litters before ours .
Hens are ex battery .

DimplesToadfoot · 17/07/2019 00:43

Current dog is a foster for Helping Yorkshire Poundies, she's perfect in every way, good with children, good with other animals, completely house trained, fine to be left, a doodle to walk, is
very calm and laid backed but happy to play when you are, but she's no looker, we've got absolutely no idea of her breeding and she has had absolutely no interest, so I'm keeping her, only decided today sooo eeek!

24hourhomeedderandcarer · 17/07/2019 00:45
