To think this looks like a peanut allergy?

I gave my 10 month old peanut butter on toast - she's not had a reaction before to peanut butter..

Yes it looks like one. My dd has a peanut allergy and the first (and only) time she had peanut butter this is what it started with. Does she have any other symptoms? Dd was 7 months and was scratching her tongue.

NCforthis2019 · 16/07/2019 15:00

Are there little lumps? Like hives? My son gets this but it’s not with peanuts - cashews and almonds set him off. Get your little one tested for allergies. Good luck.

ItchySeveredFoot · 16/07/2019 15:00

Has she had peanut butter before?

AlwaysSkint · 16/07/2019 15:01

Nope she's just playing like normal. It's not the first time she's had peanut butter either? Could it be the roughness of the toast?

If she’s had PB previously and not reacted it could just be skin irritation. Better to be safe than sorry though. The GP will refer you for a test. I thought my LO had an allergy for the same reason but the blood test was negative and he hasn’t reacted since, so you never know.

ItchySeveredFoot · 16/07/2019 15:02

My dp just suggested the roughness of the toast. Just keep a close eye on her for now then?

ItchySeveredFoot · 16/07/2019 15:03

My dd also ended up covered in hives. Call an ambulance if she shows any other symptoms. Especially around her mouth and neck.

AlwaysSkint · 16/07/2019 15:05

Not lumpy and it's almost gone! I have no idea, it's only been 5 minutes!

AlwaysSkint · 16/07/2019 15:23

@DinoEggz I've called the gp and they are calling me back so hopefully we can get the allergy test soon at some point soon!

@ItchySeveredFoot keeping an eye out for other symptoms for sure. She's well at the moment, absolutely nothing around her neck, it was just contained around her mouth.

Thank you for your help everyone!

Yep. Avoid all nuts now until you've had the allergy tests. Get some antihistamine in.

AlwaysSkint · 16/07/2019 15:29

@PeriComoToes absolutely, I won't even eat nuts incase I kiss her straight after! Nkt a fan of them anyway!

👍 better safe than sorry

My DS had that at the same age on second exposure to peanuts. We went to the GP and the allergy specialist.

He is now 3 and has thankfully outgrown it. I still watch him like a hawk but he seems fine.

UpToonGirl · 16/07/2019 16:03

My DS is allergic to peanuts, no visible reaction first couple of times he had them, then very similar rash to your DD.

Don't let the doctor fob you off, first one I saw said it probably was a reaction but just to avoid nuts. Had to get in to see another doctor who refer to allergy clinic for testing.

eurochick · 16/07/2019 16:07

We had the same. It took ages to get allergy tested. She did react to peanuts but below their threshold so we were told to gradually reintroduce peanuts. Unfortunately having loved peanut butter as a baby she then hated it and refused our attempts at reintroduction.

AbbyHammond · 16/07/2019 16:12

My youngest dc has sensitive skin and goes red around the mouth with lots of foods. However when she had an allergic reaction it was a lumpy rash like someone had rubbed stinging nettles on her face and neck.

AlwaysSkint · 16/07/2019 16:13

@eurochick does she still react?

The doctor called me back and just told me to keep an eye out for further symptoms and then try a small bit again in about week?

I think that's terrible advice from your GP. Your DD may have a severe reaction for all they know.

My DD reacted as yours initially so we avoided. A couple of years later she was given a biscuit containing peanut butter and reaction was far more severe, as she was still very young she couldn't articulate what was happening but it was enough to warrant me calling an ambulance.

She now carries epipens everywhere for peanut and also some tree nuts (3 of which she has outgrown).

It's your call but I would push for allergy testing.

eurochick · 16/07/2019 17:00

I don't think so but it's hard to check. We were told to rub it on her skin (fine) then on her lip (fine) then give her a small amount to eat. This was refused but we tricked her into having some and there was no reaction. But she won't willingly eat peanuts.

UpToonGirl · 16/07/2019 17:06

alwaysskint please push them for a referral. Just because her reaction was small this time, next time it could be more serious. It's not worth messing around with.

DrinkSangriaInThePark · 16/07/2019 17:19

My daughter reacted in the exact same way to houmous when she was a baby. I presume it was a mild reaction to the sesame seeds in the tahini. It only happened a few times and she doesn't get it at all now that she's older.

bluefruits · 16/07/2019 17:21

We've just had similar although the rash was all over his face, throat and his eyes puffed up. GP told us to get all nuts out the house and not to give any until testing has come back clear.

We've been referred to an allergy specialist for bloods and skin prick testing. He said that just because dc didn't have anaphylaxis the first time it doesn't mean he can't the next time.

Shocking advice from your gp!!!

AlwaysSkint · 16/07/2019 17:42

@bluefruits a bit different, mine was small around her mouth not all over face and throat and no puffy eyes!

OP posts:
AlwaysSkint · 16/07/2019 17:47

@UpToonGirl it's not and had it been worse or happened before I would be more forceful but this time I will follow advice and if anything happens again I will be pressing for the referral.
