I am currently pregnant for the 9th time (lost all others).

I've been being seen by the recurrent miscarriage clinic for a while and they plan to start me on some medication at the end of this month however they said if I get pregnant before then to contact immediately as they may start it early.

I've tried ringing every number I can find this morning and no one seems to know who I need to speak to or what I need to do. I've been told by the EPU that I can come in for a 'reassurance' scan but they just seem confused when I say this isn't what I need, I've been asked by the clinic to actually see them as soon as I know I'm pregnant to possibly start a course of medication.

I'm really stressing now, I don't know what to do. It the doctor was right this could be the difference between losing this baby and not but I can't seem to get through to anyone properly.

I'm thinking of just turning up at the EPU/miscarriage clinic but the hospital is a good hour away and I doubt they'd see me.

Wwyd? Will to be useful to ring my GP possibly? Although they haven't had anything to do with this situation for quite some time now.

Sorry for the ramble Sad

Oh goodness. I am so sorry for your losses. I see several consultants for unrelated things, and they always write to my GP with an update. I would think it was definitely worth speaking to your GP to see if they have on record what the plan was. Many times it would be the GP who need to prescribe it anyway as the hospital often won’t. I wish you all the very best.

Thank you, I think I'll try the GP although getting through to them within a day is an impossible task as well.

I hate complaining, the hospital have been great so far but I really just want to speak to someone to find out what I need to do. I'll be devastated if I lose this pregnancy and there was something we could have done.

I'm sorry for your loses and that you're going through this now.

Do you have a consultant that you see at the clinic and/or who oversees your care? You can ring the hospital switch board and ask to be put through to their secretary.

Also contact your GP as they should have your letters on file.

HTruffle · 16/07/2019 12:50

I’d call your gp and say it’s urgent, see if they can fit you in as an emergency this afternoon.

scaevola · 16/07/2019 12:51

You say you've been trying every number. Did you get through to anyine associated with the clinic and what did they say? If they have told you that you need to be seen immediately, they should have provided a means to achieve this. So I'd keep at their numbers, also asking for today's whereabouts of the doctors you usually see.

I would also turn up to the hospital, go to EPU and keep asking for what is required. Take all correspondence wth you,, and keep asking to see on-call registrar.

BeeNew · 16/07/2019 12:57

Did you get through to anyine associated with the clinic

The clinic is run from within women's gynecology so there isn't a specific number for it. I tried ringing the gynecology unit and they said all they can do is put me through to the EPU. I spoke to the EPU and they didn't have a clue what I needed and just said I can come in for a reassurance scan if I'm worried. They said I could speak to one of the nurses if I want but they are all busy at the moment so I'll have to call back later.

I've seen a few different doctors so I'll try again and insist on speaking to one of their secretaries. The last one I've seen was a trainee and wasn't going to be there at my next appointment so I don't even know who is reviewing my case anymore.

I think I'll try my GP and see what they suggest.

Congratulations on your pregnancy OP. Do you know the name of anyone at the gynae clinic? Sometimes you’re taken more seriously if you ring up saying you need to speak to X person...

This really shouldn’t be so hard you’d be completely justified in complaining.

PutTheBassInYourWalk · 16/07/2019 13:01

Do you have a letter from them, OP? Even if I see a registrar at my appointment, my hospital letter still has the clinic's lead consultant and my own consultant's name at the top with some phone numbers.

NiceViper · 16/07/2019 13:02

Ring back and speak to the nurse. Keep ringing back.

Or go to EPU, explain to a nurse there what you need. Keep explaining.

(GP is likely to be the slowest route)

SchrodingersUnicorn · 16/07/2019 13:06

The GP might be able to phone the EPU on your behalf and get further than you - mine did for me. Worth a go at least.
Really hope this is the one, OP. Good luck!

LazyLemur · 16/07/2019 13:12

Call EPU and ask them to order your notes and then go in and ask to see the nurse. All the information (history, intended medication etc) should be in your notes, and the nurse should be able to get hold of the gynae doc to prescribe.

RockyRolly · 16/07/2019 13:17

Honestly genuinely in your situation I'd just go to the clinic. It's easy to dismiss phone calls and be busy but they cant avoid treating you (not saying they are but you know what I mean) if you're there in front of them. Plus you might see/recognise someone from a previous visit and be able to get help sooner.

RockyRolly · 16/07/2019 13:35

I hope you've managed to get an appointment OP

BeeNew · 16/07/2019 15:01

Nothing yet, the dr's didn't answer but I think it was because it was over lunch.

I'm going to try them again shortly but I'm in work so struggling to keep sneaking off and making calls Sad

I’d find the name of a consultant working at the recurrent miscarriage clinic and call their secretary.

I always needed early scans due to past ectopics and found this much the best way to get what I needed.

dammit88 · 16/07/2019 16:11

I think EPAU is your best bet, they will be used to the follow up of recurrent miscarriages and should have access to your notes. Good luck.
