I was perimenopausal at your age. The actual menopause started when I was 42 and finished when I was 46.

But don't feel old, OP. Some women just do start the menopause younger than others do.

Have you actually had blood tests to confirm you're perimenopausal? Telling you that you might be perimenopausal is guesswork.

If you are and HRT is offered go for it. I empathise with your feeling old though.

Hi thanks for replying, she said with the symptoms I presented, period pain, sore nipples, feeling "hormonal" throughout my cycle is due to changes that happen as you approach 40 and could be peri menopause. My mum went through all this approaching 50 so I feel like it's a bit early than I envisioned but theres nothing I can do apart from suck it up I suppose.

HRT will help you to manage the symptoms though.

You don't need to just suck it up, OP. Go back and ask for the blood tests and discuss HRT (if you'd like to try it.)

Not meaning to drip free but she said take evening primrose oil for 2 months then come back.If still same look to come off combined pill to mini pill which might help. She said because my periods are regular shed be reluctant to do bloods as would come back normal

Most GPs are woefully undereducated about peri menopause so you’re actually onto a winner.

Bloods only tell you where you are on that particular day so you’re GP is saying the right thing, especially as she wants to review you in a few months.

  • your GP 🙄

My mum started her symptoms aged 38! I'm starting to get scared I'll be the same! I'm 34. It's taken this long for my periods to actually settle! 😩

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 16/07/2019 11:21

I dont want any more children and feeling constantly in early pregnancy is ironically taking the piss!

I got sterilised at 39 and then had a nine year peri menopause, periods finally stopped dead when I was 48. Six years in I'm still having horrible night sweats every single night like a post menopause. If this happened to men the research would be up the ying yang but we're just expected to endure it.

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 16/07/2019 11:49

@Ellie that sounds horrific for you

Ah you just get on with it op. It's played havoc with my mental health and sex drive fluctuates wildly but hrt put blood pressure too high so I've just had to cope x

roothyb · 16/07/2019 12:20

I get really bad night sweats! I put it down to pcos. It came back in every scan "pcos possible" but they wouldn't diagnose it as weight is fine.

However, turned out cutting out gluten even though I'm not intolerant stopped most of my symptoms completely apart from the night sweats. Is that something to get checked?

Rachelover40 · 16/07/2019 13:35

You say it turns out you 'might' be approaching the perimenopause. That can only be established by blood tests (FSH etc). Have you had blood tests or was the 'peri' just put forward as a possibility?

There could be all sorts of reasons for your symptoms and the pill can do 'funny' things. Sometimes a change of pill is indicated or some other form of contraception - if that route is taken, please do be careful!

Try not to worry.

ChihuahuaMummy1 · 16/07/2019 13:44

@Rachel it was put to me as a possibility, she wont do bloods whilst I'm having regular periods

The thing is with ''might be approaching peri menopause'' is it's like saying you might be coming towards the bit when you're coming towards the bit when you're actually menopausal ... Confused

I feel you've been fobbed off a bit. Every woman is approaching the time when they're approaching the time when they are menopausal. And when you finally get to the actual approaching bit (the 'peri') it can go on for years afaik.

@Laiste what do you think I should go back and ask?
