Advice on accident

I attended a hotel which the parking was terrible. They were fully booked and also book a conference in also. They only have 40 car parking spaces. Cars were parked anywhere they could making it passable for one car only but not one way system in place. Everywhere else is permit only. Was not informed beforehand of the lack of parking although they said we had been. Anyway I had to reverse out the way of two cars so they could pass. I then hit the barrier which I couldn’t see through my rear window and was looking at the curb judging the room I had, the barrier stands about a metre away from the curb, I’m not avoiding paying for the damage but should there be a certain height so you can see them and why do they stick them nearly in middle of the bloody road. I’m annoyed at myself but I’m also annoyed at the fact the parking was so badly organised.

I don’t mind them billing me I’m paying my excess anyway so makes no difference to me cash wise.

What is the problem then?

You reversed into something, you don't mind a bill, what's the actual question?

MsPavlichenko · 15/07/2019 23:40

It's kerb not curb. Yabu about that.

TroubleWithNargles · 15/07/2019 23:40

The hotel won't know how many cars are actually arriving though, will they? They might have 20 cars with 4 occupants or 80 with just the driver. And car parks cost a lot of money to own and run. The land itself is valuable too. In an inner city the land the car park is on could be worth millions to a developer. That's why parking is in short supply in built-up areas.

Duck90 · 15/07/2019 23:48

You are being a bit vague.

But, I personally would be surprised that they chase you for the costs of the damage. Have they said you must pay?

Private car parks all say park at your own risk, is it not their own risk that an accident happens?

bridgetreilly · 15/07/2019 23:57

If you reverse into a stationary object it's your fault irrespective of what else is going on

This.

justmakemeacuppa · 16/07/2019 00:02

I don’t know if they’ll chase it but I know they have a lot of paper work getting different departments to sort out faults and damages in this case. It probably still works but the door won’t shut now unless tied. I know it’s my fault, it’s a stationary object but I can’t help been peed off about it all. One day my work will book a venue that has adequate parking?

Why door won't shut?

FuriousVexation · 16/07/2019 00:34

What door? Your car door, the boot I presume if so?

If you've damaged the mechanism of your boot then you must have been reversing at some speed.

Don't rely on parking sensors, in my experience they are fucking useless. I rely on getting onto our difficult driveway by the time honoured method of getting my son to stand by the front door and wave me in. (I have been driving 30 odd years and generally consider myself a good driver.) If I relied on the parking sensors I'd be leaving it 3 foot away from the boundary and 6 feet from the front door... which would leave the neighbours unable to get on their driveway.

Anyway if this parking situation was annoying then make a TripAdvisor review to say so.

Hotels will always say it’s on a first come first serve basis. Would you complain when the supermarket has more customers than spaces?

I get the low barrier thing - they put low signs for disabled spaces right at the back of spaces and they can’t be seen through the back window. But as a decent driver, i’m always aware they are there because I won’t reverse anywhere without having a look first.

You can retro fit reversing sensors for a very low cost.

Jozen · 16/07/2019 00:56

I assume you've given the hotel the details of your insurance company? I wouldn't be worrying about the paperwork and different departments etc etc but how much damage did you actually do?
And is it your boot that's damaged so you can't close it?
Sorry, it's a bit confusing.

justmakemeacuppa · 16/07/2019 07:04

There is a door on the barrier that wouldn’t shut. My car not too damaged but still needs fixing. Mainly smashed light. Left review on trip advisor re carpark and how it was managed got a snotty message back. Yes they were left all the info so no hit and run.

justmakemeacuppa · 16/07/2019 07:06

Basically lied saying we were made aware of the crap parking. I definitely wasn’t, then they go on to say people were told once in the venue the ones that made it in anyway.

You must have been reversing at some speed to smash lights and a barrier!

Stop trying to pass the buck. Many places have poor parking that’s just a problem with lack of space. They can’t magic up spaces!

justmakemeacuppa · 16/07/2019 07:22

I’m guessing about 5mph no not fast.

OP posts:
Skittlesss · 16/07/2019 07:38

Barrier or bollard?

Jellybeansincognito · 16/07/2019 07:40

You’re complaining of crap parking because you crashed into a pole?

I’m sorry but, you’re supposed to be able to drive in every situation, we’re you running late and rushing around?
It’s not the carparks fault for being full that made you crash.

I don’t understand the post?
