Primary school

How much of an influence do you think the primary school years have on the rest of school and a child's life? Being picked for sports teams, participating in plays, friendships, clubs etc?

How long is a piece of string? I think it depends on the specific child, and the experiences they have. But I do think things like bullying stick with us well into our adult lives.

Depends on the environment as a whole. A school is only one of the elements. Supportive and stable home life can mitigate a lot of small negative experiences. Bullying obviously needs to be addressed not ignored...
It sounds to me you have a quiet shy child in mind in your OP? What are your concerns (i might be totally wrong though)

Totally depends on the child and the school, I can barely remember my primary years, I'd say they had little to no effect on me but as you're not asking about me I realise that's of no use to you.

Not to mention their actual education.

GrasswillbeGreener · 15/07/2019 13:51

Agree that primary age can be quite formative in terms of personality etc and bullying or bad experiences there will stay with you - certainly did with me.

hibbledibble · 15/07/2019 13:55

It is very important. Bad experiences can have a lifelong impact.

It's only now that I am older that I realise how traumatic my primary education was (it was not an English school). Some of it was shocking (regular verbal abuse or children, and occasionally physical too). It really dented my confidence, and that effected my adult life.

Middle school and comprehensive influenced me more tbh
