My son is in Dubai and is flying from there to Toronto, he had 4 hours there and promised to text me to let me know he was OK. I haven't heard anything. Should I panic?
His flight out is in half an hour and the gate is open.

His SIM might not be working abroad and he might be struggling to connect to WiFi.

Procrastination4 · 15/07/2019 08:39

A few years ago we were in a flight to Vancouver and there was a teenager sitting near us before we took off who suddenly asked if we had a phons he could use to send a text to his mum (he was Canadian) as he was supposed to do it in Heathrow but didn’t manage to do so. I gave him my phone and he managed to send a text. I got a lovely message from his mum when we landed, thanking me for helping him out (her by default!). Your son may have had problems like this too. Try not to worry!

We once had a stopover in Dubai. My DH wanted to have a coffee first, I pushed him into finding our gate first. Good thing I did, it took us 90 minutes to find the gate (there would have been a quicker route, but we're not so good in finding our way). So he could just have been walking around and having lunch. Also, sometimes it's a hassle to text or call someone from abroad. He might have to buy a bundle first to be able to do so, not worth it for a 4 hour stopover. He is fine. There's not a lot wrong that can happen walking in an airport.

thank you you are all lovely.

He’s probably not picked your message up OP. He’s more than likely having something to eat and a look round the shops.

edsheeranpaidmoretaxthanccola · 15/07/2019 09:12

If he's travelling between terminals in Dubai WiFi will drop in and out. It is a huge airport but well signposted so I'm sure he made his flight and possibly the WiFi wasn't there when he needed it to be.

worryingaboutds · 15/07/2019 09:14

its the same terminal

Have you tried to ring him?

londonrach · 15/07/2019 09:26

His phone might not work in usa until he gets to hotel etc. Dont worry x

NoSauce · 15/07/2019 09:31

How do you mean? No signal? It’s worth trying to phone for OP’s peace of mind.

happyhillock · 15/07/2019 09:32

I wouldn't worry they'll be a valid reason why he hasn't been in touch, im sure he will be at one point today

worryingaboutds · 15/07/2019 09:46

yes - straight to voicemail.

NoSauce · 15/07/2019 09:52

He might not have signal, he could have his phone switched off or it’s ran out of battery.

Sciurus83 · 15/07/2019 09:57

Wifi/4g in Dubai airport is really patchy, sure he's fine

HulksPurplePanties · 15/07/2019 10:00

I doubt his SIM works and the wife in Dubai airport is pants. He might also be enjoying a pint in the Irish Village, for which I would not blame him. I wouldn't worry OP. It's a big airport but an easy one to navigate. I had a far harder time finding my way around Pearson!

Sooverthemill · 15/07/2019 10:03

You can track flight on google. I'm sure he's fine. Natural to worry

worryingaboutds · 15/07/2019 12:11

He's fine but he left his phone on the first plane ! Hmm

OP posts:
SurfingGiantess · 15/07/2019 16:47

Omg haha I'm relieved for you. Good job he knew your number off by heart. You could call the airport or airline to see if they found it. I'm glad he's ok though

maddy68 · 15/07/2019 17:05

He's probably still got his phone in flight mode!

maddy68 · 15/07/2019 17:06

He won't miss his connection. Dubai are brilliant. They herd you through for connections

worryingaboutds · 15/07/2019 17:16

He's there and is fine now, just left his phone behind on the plane - thankfully not locked so the airline phoned 'Mum' to say they had it.

He hasn't mentioned having lost it.....Grin

thanks for the support

😁 bloody kids and phones.

Elliebellbell · 15/07/2019 18:35

So glad he's ok, I would have been exactly like you. X

Procrastination4 · 16/07/2019 19:51

So glad it has all turned out ok!
