New neighbours 🙄

Hi people 😬
I live in a quietish road of terraced houses. Have been here for 6 months or so no problems aside from my alcoholic next door neighbours but they’ve now moved and been replaced by a nice family.
On Thursday a young lady moved into the house directly opposite me. I’m not too sure who she has moved in with but I think it may just be her. Since then her and her friends are constantly hanging around outside the houses shouting and generally making noise. Last night she hosted a party from around 7pm which lasted until 4.30am. I saw around 50 different people (no exaggeration) going in and out of the house, hanging around in the road and lots of cars full of them too. There was a huge amount of noise and my young baby was woken up 5 (!!) times, ended up sat in the dining room until the party finished so we could go to bed. An ambulance was called for absolutely no reason (there was a girl being sick in the road and they were over dramatic calling 999). The lights flashed in my windows and again woke my child up. Today there have been about 10 different friends sat on the walls outside the houses and about 5 cars parked outside (this is a small road with probably only about 10 parking spaces each side).
I feel as though these people were acting like bloody animals, have no respect for their new neighbours and probably feel as though they own the road now! I also feel that this will be an ongoing problem. Would I be unreasonable to make a complaint to their landlord? And also how do I even get the landlords details? I have had a look online but I can only see that the house was last sold in 1995.

Call the council and report anti-social behaviour.

Equalityumber · 14/07/2019 16:00

Perhaps as it was a weekend it was one off and things will calm down during the week. It’s only been a few days so I would wait to see if things calm down before pursuing things further.

TheHandsOfNeilBuchanan · 14/07/2019 16:01

Years ago when I lived in a flat we had similar with new upstairs neighbours (couple mid this same as me then), I thought FFS here we go. It was a house warming party that got out of hand, I lived there for another three years with those neighbours and it wasn't repeated. I really hope this is the car for you OP. As for the noise after 11 if it's really out of hand like that, people being sick in the street etc call the police

TheHandsOfNeilBuchanan · 14/07/2019 16:01

*mid twenties

Helpmelmaooo · 14/07/2019 16:02

Also it appears someone has already made a complaint but I’m not sure who. I was walking back from the shop this morning and heard the girl on the phone saying that it was fine as she only had three people around last night and didn’t make any noise so she wasn’t sure what the complaint was about! So I feel like if I make a complaint too then the landlord will be more aware and I can sort of back up the last complaint

Make a complaint.

Don’t fall into the trap of complaining about every little thing, but parties like what you described deserve a complaint. You need the official record of action is going to be taken in the future when it becomes a pattern.

Babyblues052 · 14/07/2019 16:05

I'd have phoned 101. I've got such a low tolerance for stuff like this, I've had a really really bad experience with noisy neighbours, music blaring all hours of the day and night, early hours of the morning, constantly banging and shouting. Nightmare. And it honestly affected my mental health. I have amazing neighbours now thank God but I reckon after about 11ish the music needs turned down and consideration to the fact you don't live in a zoo. I'd definitely phone 101 and put noise complaints in if it was going on until 4 in the morning.

BlackCatsRule88 · 14/07/2019 16:08

Did you do a normal google of the address, or you just looked on right move on the house prices bit? I googled and that’s how I found the details of my noisy neighbours’ landlord

Helpmelmaooo · 14/07/2019 16:15

BlackCatsRule88 I searched the house prices on zoopla and it just said that it had been sold in 1995 but not to who.

You can pay £6 or so to get the details of who owns it from Land Registry.

Cherrysoup · 14/07/2019 16:25

Defo complain. Hopefully she works so you might get peace during the week.

tomatostottie · 14/07/2019 16:32

I probably wouldn't complain the first night someone moved in and had a housewarming party. That happened with my new neighbour once. He moved in and had a massive party with people coming and going all night. My ex was furious and wanted to call the police or go round and shout at the neighbour (glad he's an ex because he overreacted to everything like that in a ridiculous manner).
Anyway, there was never any bother ever again - bloke lived there 5 years and there was never a peep out of him.

So in your case, I'd not report the house warming party but the very next time something happens, straight on the phone to the council and a complaint to the landlord (if you can find out who it is). It does sound as they might be going to be a nuisance though - so it does need nipping in the bud ASAP.

Yabbers · 14/07/2019 16:33

It does sound pretty annoying but with this An ambulance was called for absolutely no reason (there was a girl being sick in the road and they were over dramatic calling 999). you are being unreasonable, you have no idea if they were overreacting or not. When it happened to my cousin, she had alcohol poisoning and she was bringing up blood.

Poppi89 · 14/07/2019 16:34

I feel for you op that sounds so annoying! But I would put off complaining just yet as it could have been a one-off moving in party and may not happen again. But if they receive complaints so soon it might make them want to become more difficult. They moved in on Thursday and waited for the weekend to throw a party so they must have some respect but if it happens again or carries on after a certain time I would defo make a complaint.

nauseous5000 · 14/07/2019 16:35

Hm id let it go first time round. She's young, entitled to a housewarming party and if it wasn't her being sick in street maybe it just got a bit out of control? If it happens repeatedly then follow up, but we were all young and thoughtless once...

jimmyhill · 14/07/2019 16:37

They've only been living there for three days.

There's always noise and excitement when people move house. First friends help with the move, then house warming parties, then it calms down.

Maybe give them more than three days before you start moaning the the council?

hazell42 · 14/07/2019 16:37

I would give them the benefit if the doubt and assume house warming party.
But you only have one of those.
If it continues call the council

RowingMermaid · 14/07/2019 16:38

Also as further evidence if this becomes a regular thing, film it for a minute so you can show the landlord what the situation is like.

Helpmelmaooo · 14/07/2019 16:39

Yabbers I know they were over reacting as the ambulance refused to even take her, they checked her out then turfed her back out within ten minutes.

Mummyoflittledragon · 14/07/2019 16:43

As you have an additional route from the council, I think you should also inform the landlord / letting agent. The woman is renting the house. She doesn’t own it and with 50 people coming and going in a night, they may have trashed the place. Wouldn’t you want to know if this happened and it was your house?

GhostHoward · 14/07/2019 16:43

When the property was up "To Let" do you remember who the agent was.

I think I'd chalk this one up as a one off, but if it happened again I'd be calling the police at 11pm, and logging it with the landlords.

Todaythiscouldbe · 14/07/2019 16:44

We gave our new neighbours the benefit of the doubt when they moved in 3 years ago. I absolutely wish we hadn't and, if I had the chance, I'd go back and deal with the anti social behaviour on day one. They have just turned their front garden into a barbecue area and there are cars coming and going all the time, they are out until 3 or 4am and are incapable of sealing at a normal volume. Deal with it now, before it makes you stressed and ill

Todaythiscouldbe · 14/07/2019 16:45

*speaking, I'm not sure what sealing is

VenusTiger · 14/07/2019 16:50

Was there an estate agents sign outside before she moved in?

PeoniesarePink · 14/07/2019 16:51

When we had issues with the rented house over the road, I emailed every letting agent within a 10 mile radius and eventually found the one.

Every morning he woke my DD up at 6am revving his crappy old work van and left it running for 30 minutes while shouting down his phone like Dom Joly. We were literally being driven mad by it. I don't think they believed me though until I filmed him doing it. They were given their notice within a few weeks thankfully.

Use a video camera next time, clearly displaying the time and the noise levels and send to the council.
