To be sick of counting sheep

I can't sleep again, I can't say what as it's work related but I've got so much shit on my mind, I just feel like crying but I can't. I don't know how to cope.

Sorry to hear you are suffering shepcountthebloodysheep. I have insomnia too, I know it drives you crackers. However, if you know what's keeping you awake, could you maybe try writing it all down? Maybe come up with an action plan of how to tackle it? Or just simply say to yourself I've written it down now, no more worrying about it until morning?
Good luck, I hope you manage to get a decent quality sleep. Flowers

Listen to a podcast, radio, audio book or soothing music. It works for me as it takes my mind of stuff.

When I can't sleep due to work I email myself (to work email) with a list of everything that's bugging/ worrying me. I usually find this gives me a bit of breathing space to try and wind down and go to sleep.

Also lying here unable to sleep due to work. I keep asking myself if the jobs worth it, is life really about lying here on a Saturday night worrying about Monday?

shepcountthebloodysheep · 14/07/2019 01:57

Still awake. I just can't sleep, ive read a book, been on here, playing solitaire but it's not working. Ive not slept for two nights and I have to work in the morning.

Dancing queen no it's not is it. I like my job but the shit is temporary thank god. It doesn't make it easier as I'm worrying about a person.

I'm a life-long insomniac, and I recently found something that actually works: think about one subject, and every time your mind wanders away from that one subject, bring it back. It needs to be something quite complex, and which you find interesting - and which it would be difficult to get to the end of. So, for example, thinking of exactly how you would decorate an enormous house with dozens of rooms, or thinking of telling all the people you have ever disliked exactly what you think of them, or thinking of how you would organise the country if you were supreme dictator. I have a feeling that this works because it's more complicated and interesting that counting sheep, which gets very very tedious after a while, but it also shuts down all the other mental chatter. I think it has to be the same subject every time, so after a while, you begin to associate it with sleep - it's like a sort of self-hypnosis. I'm off to bed soon, and I bet anything it will work for me again.

I hear you. Try getting up and doing something that involves no screens, maybe have a snack and then go back to bed. Tomorrow you can think of a long term plan for the work stress.

What used to work for me before I started listening to stuff was counting backwards from a very big number. It's a bit like PP's suggestion because it takes more concentration than counting sheep.
