Why isn't there more coverage of the case of Yousef Makki?

I'm really surprised there isn't more coverage of this case.

"A boy has been cleared of murdering a 17-year-old he stabbed in the heart with a flick knife." www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-manchester-48962845

The defender did kill him so I'm really unclear how he wasn't found guilty of manslaughter - I'm assuming it is because the defendant claimed self-defence but it's not that clear from the reporting. The victim's family are obviously bewildered at the verdict.

Interested in others' views, especially if you've been following the case. The boys involved sound like absolute idiots but the trial result does seem curious.

Thanks for sharing the petition Frolie

Very sad state of affairs...

Poor Makki family. This smacks of being disrespectful and showing no remorse whatsoever! Video sent to Yousef's younger brother after the 'not guilty' verdict.

Disgusting. If Boy A actually created that video - whether it was sent to the Makki family deliberately or not - then this is just even worse. He obviously feels very little remorse over his actions.

Yousef Makki was a scholarship schoolboy at Manchester Grammar, which basically aims to be needs blind; if they think you deserve a place then you are in regardless of income. And he was from Burnage, so not really some middle class boy.

It’s very sad.

My eldest boy is nearly 17. I feel so sickened by what the Makki family have had to endure, and can't quite understand why a verdict like this hasn't gained more attention. It sets a terrible legal precedent.

Newer petition on Change now in YM's name, fighting for uncreased knife crime sentences:

And the gofundme started by his sister for their legal fight:
