... to help two picky people?

We would be going in July time and only have 6-7 days, which we’d like to make the most of. So perhaps not too far away. We are fortunate in that we are both quite well travelled and would like to go somewhere we’ve not been before, without spending a fortune.

We live in the UK and have been to much of Europe - France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Turkey, Austria, Cyprus, Greece, Hungary, Luxembourg, Poland, Switzerland, Croatia, Sweden, Bosnia and Macedonia. We’ve also been to Morocco and Egypt in North Africa.

I have been thinking it would be nice to go somewhere we could both chill out by the pool/beach and do some cultural stuff BUT we are adventurous and I’m keen to hear alternative recommendations from others!

Please hit me with your top suggestions!

We did a cruise and it was fab! Ours was around the Caribbean but you probably don’t have time for that, but you can get lots of amazing cruises. It wasn’t overcrowded or tacky or anything else you hear about cruises, it was lovely and we went in August.

"Or Butlins Minehead?"

I realise this is a joke but DH and I are just back from there and had a great time. We spent a lot of time driving out onto Exmooor to check out neolithic tombs. It's a fascinating landscape. There's also a lot of options locally for outdoor sports. So plenty there for someone adventurous.
Maybe not as a honeymoon location though-unless your especially gregarious or very into penny falls machines.

If you've never been to Russia, I'd recommend that. You could start off with Moscow and then go East a bit and rent a chalet in the Ural Mountains for peace and quiet. The countryside is endless and unspoilt.

I've always wanted to go somewhere in a desert. My dream would be Siwa Oasis in Egypt. Siwa is very conservative though. No PDAs! Maybe the Bab Al Shams desert hotel in Dubai?

Thank you so much, we have been to your suggestions and would like to go somewhere different.

Iceland does intrigue me, could we easily fill 6-7 days there?

@Iltavilli Oh your suggestions sound wonderful - you’ve just reminded me that Jordan has been on my bucket list for a while and your description of Montenegro sounds amazing! I’ll have to investigate!

@Yachiru and @winnerwiner I’m going to check out these - perhaps a bit far away but maybe worth it

@Bobbybobbins, @pinegreen, @FreeFreesia, @slug, @CottonSock, @c*@CherryPavlova, @Isthebigwomanhere and @CurbsideProphet* Thank you so much, I’ll have a google of these

@ps1991 I would never have thought of a cruise, thank you. Having been used to organising things ourselves it’s never really been on our radar. Would you recommend any companies in particular?

I’m voting for Jordan too, mostly because it’s on my bucket list. Hopefully in the next couple of years.

easterlemma · 12/07/2019 23:26

@unlimiteddilutingjuice You’ve made Butlins minehead sound quite appealing actually! But you’re right, maybe not for honeymoon. Russia on the other hand. . . Great shout! Such have a huge country and I’ve never been.

We have been to Dubai but not the place you suggested, I’ll look it up, thank you

I’d love to do Route 66, so will suggest that...although you would probably need longer.

Mother87 · 12/07/2019 23:56

Kalkan Turkey - stunning views/great boat trips/archeological sites within easy drives/superb restaurants...

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 13/07/2019 00:00

Cyprus

Nissi Bay area, it is close to ayia napa but you're talking 10 minutes in a car.
The hotels are all beautiful, the food is amazing and makrinissos beach is stunning
For me that beach was so much better than some I've been to in the Caribbean.
Nice short flight too.

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 13/07/2019 00:01

Makronissos even

MadamePompadour · 13/07/2019 00:02

Playa del carmen area of Mexico? Nice beaches, Mayan ruins, parks like xcaret and xel ha. Quad biking jungle tours, etc.

HopefullyAnonymous · 13/07/2019 00:03

Montenegro?

Threeminis · 13/07/2019 00:09

We did Sharm.. the diving was exquisite

Warmhandscoldheart · 13/07/2019 00:13

Malta, it's a lovely country with friendly people.

TigerJoy · 13/07/2019 00:19

Crete

Ischia

Sardinia

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 13/07/2019 00:20

Formentera - yes, it is one of the Balearics, but it's tiny, doesn't even have an airport, the beaches are stunning and mostly empty. Most tourists hire bikes, rather than cars. No real resorts, just a sprinkling of hotels and villas.

Just be aware of the nudist beaches Grin

@easterlemma we have only been on that one cruise and it was with Royal Caribbean. It was fantastic service, typically American. We booked through Virgin and had a week in Florida first then the cruise was 6 days with a stop in Haiti, Mexico and Jamaica, the days in between we were on the ship. It was the perfect balance of exploring and relaxing for us as the ship days you can be by the pool and the other days you can do excursions, or explore by yourself.

Mollieben1 · 13/07/2019 08:19

We went to Sorrento, Italy. I would love to go back

Ellmau · 13/07/2019 08:22

Sicily if you don't mind the heat.
