Wearing skimpy clothes at work event

NC for this since it maybe outing.

I'm lucky enough to go on a trip abroad paid by work as a thank you for working hard. Some of the ladies (20s if relevant) are wearing very skimpy clothing. Some of them might as well be naked Blush Is this acceptable? It's a social trip but with colleagues.

Hmm

Personally I wouldn't want to see my colleagues dressed like that and I'd certainly not want them seeing me dressed to leave nothing to the imagination.

It probably just comes down to the sort of job you do. I've always had it drilled into me that everything I do reflects on who I work for and I have to be careful both in and out of work. We have our social media checked etc (I don't have it anyway) by some of our bosses.

I guess if its truly just a thank you gift with no hint of a work element, there's not much you can do/say about it. But I personally would expect that if work are paying for it, then it's right to behave in a certain manner.

Bluntness100 · 13/07/2019 16:26

God no. On a work jolly somewhere hot they should make like mother Teresa. In lest they be judged by you.

Ohbehave1 · 13/07/2019 17:44

But who'll think of the children Shock

It depends on your line of work, I was fortunate to go on a similar trip for subbing an award at work, wasn't a beach holiday though and whilst a lot of it was free time there were a couple of excursions related to our industry in that country (not clients), on the itinerary it hurt mentioned that we were representing our organisation at all times, I took this to mean be presentable, polite, engaging and don't get wasted and try to snog the chief exec. If you work in a sales type environment I think thing bikinis and shots at the pool bar are probably just fine.

TheHandsOfNeilBuchanan · 13/07/2019 17:57

Much like doormat my social media etc are checked by bosses and our organisation is subject to public scrutiny, so shenanigans would likely be picked up by the tabloid press in a not very positive light

ForalltheSaints · 13/07/2019 18:11

OP, this is the UK, where we have possibly the worst clothing retailing of anywhere except perhaps the US, and no idea of style in anything above 20C. Clothing not made to last, far too thin, and getting worse. I'm not surprised.

Any men there are equally likely to be badly dressed, with shirt buttons undone too many, as well.

The French and Italians know how to dress stylishly in warm weather.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 13/07/2019 18:12

It wouldn't occur to me to care. I used to go to the same gym as a number of colleagues and I generally saw them at the pool so they'd all seen me in nothing but a very small bikini. The women had even - horrors! - seen me naked in the changing room.

Somehow - despite the pearl-clutchingly awful inappropriateness of not wearing a boiler suit at all times when outside of the office - we still managed to have a professional relationship in working hours.

ChippyMinton · 13/07/2019 18:22

Are you in Love Island?

BlueCornsihPixie · 13/07/2019 18:36

Presumably if they are in bikinis there's a pool/beach? Remind them to pack their wetsuits next time, preferably a few sizes too big so as not to show too much of their shape

They're not turning up to dinner in a thong bikini are they? It's not any different to seeing the myriad of strangers you see in bikinis on the beach/pool.

Pinktinker · 13/07/2019 18:42

If it were a work trip it wouldn’t be acceptable but on a social trip I really don’t see why not.

HolyFuckballsBatman · 13/07/2019 18:48

It's not a work event though is it?
It's a reward for working hard. They're not representing the company now, they're relaxing on holiday.

Unclench.

purplecorkheart · 13/07/2019 19:05

Are they by the pool or on a beach? Or at a conference?

Bluntness100 · 13/07/2019 19:17

I seriously doubt they are at a conference in a bikini on an award trip. Unless the op forget to mention some critical part to this.

Seems she's objecting to bikinis by the pool or beach.

As you do.
