CosmoCol Advice - constipation thread - sorry!

Firstly sorry to post here I posted in the postnatal health yesterday but no response. I am also not a poo troll promise!

I give birth 14 weeks ago (traumatic birth including a cut and 2nd degree tear both healed well) but I’ve had brutal constipation since, I’ve always struggled with constipation and have a ‘lazy bowel’ but this is something else! I had a massive poo last Saturday - I was in agony for over an hour trying to part with it as it was stuck and so dry (sorry tmi) I was in tears it was awful.

I had one more movement a day later and since then I haven’t. I have bad stomach pains now! Although I’m not sure if that’s from the CosmoCol? Has anyone had stomach pains from taking this? How long does it usually take to work? I usually have Movicol but I’m aware it’s a similar product but never had cramps with that. I’ve had two CC already and debating another.

On another note, have suppositories but they never seem to work for me, I’m not sure where I go wrong with these as everyone on here recommends them? (I’ve also had one this afternoon altho couldn’t keep it in longer than 20mins)

Things I’ve had so far today:
X 2 Cosmo col
X1 glyercin suppositories
X3 strong coffees
Apple juice
Sea salt bath
Apples
I’ve drank so much water it’s a joke
I’ve even resorted to 2 cigs today! I can’t have anymore - they are making me feel sick. (I was a previous smoker before falling pregnant but just can’t hack them any longer)

Does anyone know of any combinations what worked for you? Sorry for the awful topic I’m becoming desperate

The best thing for me is magnesium oxide, currently got magO capsules.

The cosmo col will work if you take enough of it though. With the suppositories you need to push them as high as possible and hang on as long as you can.

You have my sympathy Flowers

Meant to say, I was on laxido (similar to movicol etc) 2 sachets morning and night just for normal lazy bowel/IBS constipation. For a more severe problem you'll need more than 2 a day

Leosnewmummy · 12/07/2019 22:25

Dulcoease taken daily keeps it soft. In a blue box from superdrug, Tesco.

Simpled · 13/07/2019 01:41

Thank you! I'll try both tomorrow as I'm still awake and struggling Sad luckily DH is doing night feeds if our LO wakes up as I'm back and forth still

So today the cramps are even worse I'm bed ridden at the mo..

I've had 3 CosmoCol yesterday and I've had two today and I've got a lot of watery (almost like the runs) poo - is this because of the CC and other products I've used? Or could this be impacted?
I'm back and forth from the loo every 5mins now
It's so annoying I can feel it coming out and then it goes back up (sorry tmi)

you have overflow you need an enema to shift the plug

Queenioqueenio · 13/07/2019 16:48

I bet you’ve got overflow. You will need to shift the blockage. I’ve only got experience of laxido & movicol but I had x4 a day for 4 days when I had a big blockage. With lots of lots of water.

Simpled · 13/07/2019 16:57

Thanks I'm so upset this is awful. I can't stop crying. What am I best doing having more then? DH has bought me some Movicol I'm thinking of taking another two of those? As the CosmoCol is just giving me terrible cramps

Enema - sorry if this is stupid question do I just buy one online?

Would you not need a doctor to perform an enema?

EtonM3ss · 13/07/2019 17:10

You can get glycerin suppositories from a chemist just insert one and hold. Insert it around the stool not into it

Simpled · 13/07/2019 17:12

I've seen people mention on here from Amazon but I'm worried. My surgery isn't open till Monday, I'm debating whether to call 111 as it's becoming dreadful but I'm wary as it's just constipation isn't it.

If you're concerned, call. Blockages can be dangerous. Good luck.

MummatoaMunchkin · 13/07/2019 19:42

I was going to suggest lactulose as that softens the stool which helps in come out but after your update I would call 111 if you havent already, you will need a doctors help at this point.

I hope your ok op!

Simpled · 13/07/2019 20:02

Thanks everyone I rang 111 but it was a sit and wait appt so thought I'd wait out and contacted one of them private ones! All well however they need to exam me Sadwhy I didn't think of that at the time I have no idea, guess I just didn't wanna leave the house and thought I could ask about upping my dosage. Dr recommended I go the orginal place 111 told me to go. If my stomach is soft they'll up the Movicol likely however, they want to check it's nothing more sinister first. Just dropping my LG off at my mums and heading there, hopefully won't be too busy Sad

Thanks everyone

OP - for future reference - you can buy phosphate enemas from your pharmacy.

You need one. Hopefully you'll get one.

Good luck!

Simpled · 14/07/2019 18:29

Thanks, hopefully they won't be a next time though!

Dr has told me to take 8 sachets of Movicol which I've taken today, a lot of poo water (sorry!!) and a few parts of the harder stool so surely must be breaking it up? This is so bad.

How long did it take for the Movicol to work? I feel like I'm never gunna poo again Sad dr gave me a prescription for an emena - I'm just in the bath now to try and relax before doing it but I'm terrified. Are they painful?

Sorry I meant how long did Movicol take to work when doing the impact course of 8 sachets?
