I always go to the effort of making it at Christmas it’s just so good.

Beestripey · 15/07/2019 23:42

Oh yes!! yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuum

PivotPivotPivottt · 15/07/2019 23:45

Love it. A couple of Christmases ago I was pregnant and the hotel we went to for dinner was a buffet type of thing. Unlimited chicken liver pate that I couldn't have SadSad

WhatWouldTheNeighboursSay · 16/07/2019 00:03

Ohhh!! @PivotPivotPivottt Sad
That's unbelievably cruel Sad

Love pate Grin And homemade is lush Grin

Morrison's chicken and bacon is good when you can't be bothered making your own but need the hit Smile

We also do a cheat's salmon pate/mousse:
Blitz a tub of cream cheese with a packet of salmon trimmings, loads of black pepper, a chopped chilli and a good squeeze of lime (or lemon), dust with grated zest (or stir through) Heavenly and a crowd pleaser. For some reason people always things something that tastes so good must be really time consuming and fiddly. I of course do nothing to disuade this belief Blush

TheLime · 16/07/2019 00:05

I think it’s really quite important here to bring up chopped liver. Similar to liver pate but a coarser texture, more onions and plenty of egg. Try it.

Magickl · 16/07/2019 00:13

I love it, but only made it the once. The smell of hot pate made me retch.

paperandfireworks · 16/07/2019 00:29

Oh god oh god foodgasm

Have barely eaten in days due to bowel surgery oh how I need pate, and salmon ......

birdling · 16/07/2019 08:18

Home made chicken liver pate. Food of the gods.

I am six months pregnant and hate you with every considerable ounce of my being right now.

@billy1966 I have screenshot your recipe to make once I am no longer incubating.

Christmas is going to be ace this year.

MargoLovebutter · 16/07/2019 09:51

oh, yes - food of the gods. So good for you as well - full of iron, B12 and all that.

recrudescence · 16/07/2019 09:58

—waiting for recrudescence to tell me how much they hate pickles—

Adore pickles.

PIPERHELLO · 16/07/2019 11:42

@Erismorn, a great snack after having a baby. 👍 Even better if you make it and freeze it before the baby is born. It freezes so well.

I remember after my last child, a nurse telling me to watch my iron levels.

Apparently, the thinking was that women with very low levels of iron, exhausted, up half the night with feeds etc. might be more prone to suffering from PND.

I've no idea of the truth of it but it, but keeping iron readings at an optimum level can only help with energy during a very busy time.

Erismorn · 17/07/2019 11:54

@billy1966 fab suggestion! My iron had already plummeted at my 12 week bloods, so am on liquid iron (which does not taste great, no matter what the bottle claims).

Was on iron tablets with my first DD (which I stopped taking before she was born), and we now think on reflection that I did suffer from PND. Am going to breastfeed again this time so will use iron as a reason to why I have to eat a lot of pate!

billy1966 · 17/07/2019 18:02

I have heard the liquid iron is fairly disgusting alright. Dried apricots and almonds were my fix to snack on. As apricots are full of iron and almonds have calcium and folic acid.

I swore by an old fashioned tonic called Floridix as a pregnancy pick me up when I was feeling shattered. Well worth checking out. I still use it today and give it to all the family at various different times.

Mind yourself 👍

MitziK · 17/07/2019 18:36

Bloody hell. I knew about the not eating blue cheese/brie, avoiding sheep and not trusting any buffet food when I was last up the duff, but it's a bit shit that now you're told you can't even have one serving of liver blitzed up with butter because of a) listeria and b) because vitamin A is bad. Does that mean you can't eat tins of Mackerel in Tomato Sauce anymore as well? (I'd have starved without those and tins of Tuna with sweetcorn - yes, I know - Mercury. But I had to eat something and everything else made me puke profusely, including vegetables - I really, really wanted blue cheese on crackers, though).

Duffed-up ladies of 2019, I am so sorry. Enjoy your post birth celebratory pates with abandon (and lots of crusty bread).

myusernamewastakenbyme · 17/07/2019 18:38

I had some as a starter in a posh restaurant....it was one of the best things ive ever eaten.

billy1966 · 17/07/2019 20:37

When pate is really good it's heavenly but when it's bad it's absolutely disgusting.

Homemade is usually very good. A fabulous restaurant I know of, sold their pate in farmers markets and was incredible.
Other than that, bought ones in my experience are rank.

Autumnchill · 17/07/2019 20:43

SIL has a great chicken liver pate recipe that has anchovy paste and thyme in. Christmas tradition now to make it

Madvixen · 17/07/2019 20:45

I made a massive portion last week and froze it down into individual portions. It's my lazy but really tasty dinner. I use gin rather than brandy and it's yummy

ThomasFurious · 17/07/2019 20:47

LOVE pate. I easily become aenimic so I have to eat lots. 😁

CareBear50 · 17/07/2019 21:32

Vile. Utterly vile!
