There's no such thing as karma

AIBU to feel there's no such thing as 'karma' or 'fate'?

My DM is always saying "Oh it wasn't/was meant to be..." and it irritates me. (I don't let it show, I just nod). Life is just a serious of thousands of small and big decisions, random events, coincidences and sheer luck (good or bad).

I think if you're a shit, selfish person you'll soon run out of friends but that's just consequence, not karma.

I know many amazing, kind people who have had really awful and unfair things happen to them or their family, why do we put so much faith in karma? There's no inherent earthly balance of good/bad we are all bound to.

Often, bastards get away with being bastards and good guys really do finish last.

rant over, as you were

*My belief is that it exists but doesn't influence every decision and action in the world.

'Karma' is consequence in costume jewellery.

@Lifecraft I'm glad you wrote that post as you're saying exactly what I was thinking but couldn't get round to putting into words.

@Nessie Karma is selective? So how do you decide when it's Karma and when it isn't? What proof do you have when it's either Karma or just life? Or are you the one that decides?

DragonsOnRoof · 12/07/2019 17:28

Or does karma only show up for the very BEST people? And they must be believers, of course.

@DragonsOnRoof Yup. That's clearly how it works.

Glad that's cleared up Confused

I don't believe believe in karma particularly, but sometimes it helps a tiny bit to think a missed opportunity is fate and something better is waiting round the corner.

In my experience, as one door closes, another one slams in your face.

The idea of karma is utter nonsense, as is the idea that everything happens for a reason. Life is random and cruel.
