AIBU to wonder why the police would need to know this

I had a phone call from social services, from somebody who works along side my social worker.
(So she doesn't know our personal family case)

She said she has been asked by the police to find out whether my son has contact with his birth father. She also said she has no idea why they've asked for this, doesn't know what they are investigating.

I can't phone my local police station as it's a 101 number, they pass on a message and may phone you back (doesn't happen often tbh) so would be days, if at all before I found out.

Why would they ask this question?

Most likely because he is suspected to have committed a crime and they need to asses whether any safety planning needs done with regards to his contact with his son. It doesn’t necessarily mean the crime had anything to do with child abuse or anything like that though. Maybe he’s a drug user and would be exposing a child to that.

Does anybody know
Thanks

If he has contact and there is reason, they will be in touch.
I he doesnt, there is no need for you to know except nosiness
I'd be nosy too, human nature, but they wont tell if they dont have to

To be fair, you'd need to know if there was any future possibility of contact, too.
