AIBU to give children cereal with no milk?!

All but one of my children hates milk (I do too so maybe it’s my fault?!).
So the eldest 2 fix their own breakfast - toast/fruit/fry up etc. The youngest generally has some sort of toast and fruit. My girl likes cereal (a multi grain type) but just wants to eat it from the bowl with no milk. For some reason this just feels wrong so we generally get something else. The odd time i just let her but somehow it doesn’t feel like she’s eating a proper breakfast! Should I just let it go or stick to just once in a while or just stop all together?!

Oh oops big x post there!

One of mine even asks for weetabix without milk. Which I find really odd.

Cheerios are so much better without milk. With milk they’re soggy and disgusting.

She’s 11 and I should think she can decide for herself and eat her cereal any old way as long as she’s getting enough fluid.

My DCs do this most days.
I’ve got one DC with a life threatening cows milk allergy, so we don’t have it in the house. They will both eat the whole bowl most days with no liquid at all, but sometimes DC2 will get halfway down and ask for “milk” - which is almost always oat milk.
The only time they both want milk is when they have something like Nesquick cereal or something else that will turn the milk chocolatey Grin

I mean... The milk is probably the healthiest part of the bowl of cereal so you're not wrong for wanting her to eat something more substantial.

But, as long as she's not left hungry after and generally gets balanced the rest of the day stuff Id say it's fine.

I think she has a good diet for the rest of the day, not much rubbish in the house, odd bag of crisps, odd biscuit, cook from scratch etc, lots of fruit and veg.
I think my block seems to be breakfast, all other meals are healthy (I think) but @bridgetreilly can I ask what you do for a healthy breakfast that includes protein? (But bear in mind she won’t eat yogurt or stuff with milk so doesn’t like porridge etc)?? Thank you.

For protein....

Egg, cheese, meats, nuts...

Scrambled eggs on toast is quick and easy
Peanut butter on toast
Cheese on toast
Bacon and eggs
Ham and cheese toasties.

All sorts really

Nothing wrong with cereal without milk - I do this sometimes as I don't like milk. Sometimes I have thick yogurt on.

She must feel full enough or She would eat something else.

I’ve always had my cereal dry. I find soggy cereal utterly repulsive and stomach turning.

So I say it’s fine to let your DD eat cereal without milk if that’s her choice.

I’m fine with eating dairy products generally. Milk as a drink, yoghurt, cheese etc. Just not when it’s making my cereal soggy!

Thank you 001, think she’d like peanut butter on toast.
(Despite us having chickens she doesn’t like eggs 🙄😂! This is another reason why breakfast is a pain in this house!!)
