For not expecting to catch flu in July?

So I caught the flu on Sunday. I'm convinced I caught it when I took my son who had an infection to the walk in centre.

Anyway, Monday took myself to hospital by taxi as I felt as though I was going to die and ended up on a drip etc. I thought I had a kidney infection as the pain was similar to that but I was told it's just flu. Since then back at home, bed bound and only this evening do I feel as though I can move enough to have a cup of tea or check my phone etc.

AIBU to expect to not catch flu in July? Has anyone heard of this going round? I had my flu jab in November but I guess that doesn't last this long.

Just wanting to know if anyone has heard this is going round?

Cases of flu happen all year round, it’s just much more common in colder months as the virus survives well in colder air and people stuck inside are in closer proximity to each other so it spreads easier.

Flu is horrible, hope you feel better soon!

My sympathies, i've felt bad enough moping around this past week with just a cold, can't imagine what having the flu must be like, especially when it's warm too.

I caught it late summer. I did think I might die of coughing. Unfortunately DS was fully breastfed so I still had to feed him as no one else had the right equipment. Luckily DH stayed home and looked after everyone else so I could die loudly in my own bed.

I've had the flu jab - but I've got a stinking cold.

The flu jab doesn't stop you getting colds .

There's always flu around. I recall the asthma nurse telling me there's always a "first round" of that year's top strain in the summer, and lots of people will think they've just had a wry heavy cold when it was in fact flu.

As I understand it, Flu jab only protects against a few strains they think will be the most common that winter. There are many different flu viruses.

I'm just getting over it now but it's our winter flu season now. Worst one on record. Healthy people are dying.
Hope you feel better soon.

I don't have flu, but have the worst cold I've ever had in my life (and I'm in my late 50s). I've had it 3 weeks now, and it is still going strong. The first week I also had a temperature and felt very weak and feeble. That has gone, fortunately, but I am still very congested.

we are currently in the middle of flu season, this year there has been attention bought to a rise in the number of cases of flu in January so equivalent of your July. Its been a bad year this year
