DS is 2 in October. So will probably leave it for this year - but WIBU to arrange a camping trip for next summer? I really, really miss camping!
He loves being outside so I do think he would enjoy it... may even do a trial run in the garden first to see what he makes of it!

By the way, he is our first and only so I have no idea the difference between a nearly two and a nearly three year old in terms of language and development etc

We took DS to his first festival at 8 months then again at 16 months. Missed last year bit back in a few weeks with him at 3.7 and DD at 20 months.

It will be fine. Some of us have taken our kids camping since a few weeks old Wink

Just be warned they take ages to go to sleep on the first night. You just have to go with the flow.

Ohyesiam · 10/07/2019 21:42

I took my youngest at 14 months, so dd was 4, and pretty much every summer since.
I’ve never been to an electric hook up and club house place. More compost loo and fire pit.
I always find it easier than being at home, other people find it harder. If you already know you love it you’ll be fine.

KatnissMellark · 10/07/2019 21:42

We've been taking DS regularly since he was about 10 months. He bloody loves it! Why do you think you need to wait?

Dontrainonmyparade · 10/07/2019 21:43

Took mine at 11 months, again at almost 2 and will be going again this summer at almost 3. All fine - plenty of layers, waterproofs and a family friendly site.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 10/07/2019 21:43

We took ours as babies and every year since so your will be fine!

SudowoodoVoodoo · 10/07/2019 21:44

Our first proper camping holiday was when the DCs were 2 & 4 with a tester weekend before. We headed off to France hoping for good weather... at least the rain was warm Grin

windmill121 · 10/07/2019 21:44

12 months or less was when we took ours ? As long as the weather is ok - go for it

Kneehighinshit · 10/07/2019 21:44

We took our kids camping from about 9 months old. A travel cot was essential for when we were putting tent up/ down. Just take lots of snacks and expect naps to go off sync.

BlueSkiesLies · 10/07/2019 21:45

As soon as they sleep through the night and don’t scream their heads off at 3am

frenchknitting · 10/07/2019 21:46

DS was much better at 2 (and younger) than 3. He didn't sleep at all the time we went at 3. Fine again at 5.

ethelfleda · 10/07/2019 21:49

I’m not sure why I think we need to wait. I guess I wondered if it would be a logistical nightmare and I’d regret it or he would hate it!
He doesn’t sleep through but he doesn’t scream at night, luckily!

Any age, DD was about 3 months the first time we went but we’ve taken her quite a few times and she’s slept fine and had a lovely time playing in the tent.

aibutohavethisusername · 10/07/2019 22:16

My daughter was about 9 months. She was an autumn baby so we waited until the following summer.

Onesailwait · 10/07/2019 22:18

I have 4 kids and we've always taken them from the first summer after they were born. I think the youngest was Ds2 he was around 3 months.

SophyStantonLacy · 10/07/2019 22:19

We spent 4 months camping in southern Africa when our youngest was 3, other two were 10 and 7.

PicaK · 10/07/2019 22:26

It'll be fine - but don't schedule potty training for that week!

ColdCottage · 10/07/2019 22:30

We camped with DS at 18 months - travel cot in tent.

Tried a night in tent in garden at 3 - hopeless, again at 4 - ok-ish so I'd say 5.

NickMarlow · 10/07/2019 22:31

Dd1 was 2.5 the only time she's been so far. Didn't go the next summer as heavily pregnant/had a newborn.

Going over dd2s first birthday this summer. She's a lot more mobile than her sister was at this age, hoping she and the tent both survive the experience!
