To ask if you'd accept or reject early caesarean

Helpplease14 · 10/07/2019 12:05

I'm booked in for a caesarean at 39 weeks but my consultant has now suggested pushing the caesarean forward to 38+2 (tomorrow) due to me not currently being able to feel the baby move. On the monitor the baby is fine, but I've had an issue with movements since day one and an anterior placenta and go through periods of feeling the baby move lots and then some days, nothing.

The pros to pushing it forward are obviously the baby being here safely, but the cons are having steroid injections, the baby not quite being 39 weeks, and the whole situation feeling a lot more rushed and stressed whereas everything felt calm having a set date next week. I'm just really conflicted about what to do. I may well start feeling the baby move again tomorrow but if I didn't I would go to the ward twice daily until I do begin feeling him again, or my section next week, whichever.

Can I ask what anyone on here would do? I'm really conflicted, and obviously want to meet my baby ASAP and I feel like that's clouding my judgement.

1000% bring it forward. There are reasons babies don't move. I've had 2 prem daughters. 32 weeks and 34 weeks. Both had steroids and are both now 100% healthy. The 34 weeker was only in hospital for 4 days.

32 weeker due to movements. 34 weeker due to pprom.

Helpplease14 · 10/07/2019 12:10

Thank you @Whitefeather01. He is moving lots on the monitor, I'm just unable to feel them. Would that change how you'd proceed?

I’d bring it forward.

sayanythingelse · 10/07/2019 12:11

I've never had a CS but I've been induced asap due to complications. Personally, I'd follow what the consultant says, in my opinion it's better to get the baby out now than wait and regret it if something is wrong.

Is there a reason the baby would need steroid injections before 39 weeks? 37 is full term.

Lougle · 10/07/2019 12:11

You can only decide for you, but I'd rather have a known risk than an unknown risk, so I'd bring it forward.

duebaby2 · 10/07/2019 12:12

Your baby is full term at 37 weeks so shouldn't need a steroid injection at 38+ unless known lung issues or baby was really small. Maybe at 36 weeks they'd give it.

I honestly wouldn't worry too much, keep on eye on the movements and look forward to seeing your baby sooner.

My niece was born at 35 weeks and was out of hospital once she'd got from 4lbs to 5lbs and her parents could give her medication themselves. This was a week or two.

MustardScreams · 10/07/2019 12:12

Babies are classed at term from 37 weeks, so you definitely need steroid injections?

If a consultant is saying you should have an earlier csection I would. Babies are much easier to treat out of the womb than in, things can go wrong very quickly.

GotToGoMyOwnWay · 10/07/2019 12:13

I wouldn’t even hesitate. Dc1 has to be born at 36 weeks due to placenta praevia.

Littletabbyocelot · 10/07/2019 12:13

I'd bring it forward and did in similar circumstances (to 37 weeks dead on, though my dts couldn't wait and arrived 2 days early).

bonzo77 · 10/07/2019 12:14

Bring it forward. I’ve been where you are three times. Babies came at 39, 35 and 37 weeks. Was definitely for the best. They may want to give you steroids for baby’s lungs. Good luck.

Forensicpsych · 10/07/2019 12:14

Bring it forward!!!!

Celebelly · 10/07/2019 12:14

I would. Better a few days too soon than a second too late.

AppleKatie · 10/07/2019 12:14

I would have it. Ime consultants don’t push for earlier csections without good reason.

jonesy22 · 10/07/2019 12:14

I had my ds at 38+3 and he was absolutely fine. Bring it forward xx

raviolidreaming · 10/07/2019 12:14

Personally, I'd follow what the consultant says, in my opinion it's better to get the baby out now than wait and regret it if something is wrong

This from me too. Particularly as going to the ward for monitoring twice daily sounds stressful and gives a false sense of security - I think - if something happens in the interim time.

mrbob · 10/07/2019 12:15

38 weeks is term- I would go for it (and I am all for letting nature doing its thing) You are going to be having a section anyway so no big difference. You can have steroids now surely?

Funnyface1 · 10/07/2019 12:15

I'd definitely bring it forward, seems safer.

Waveysnail · 10/07/2019 12:15

Are u sure you will need injections? My second was born 2 weeks before due date and mw didnt bat eyelid. We were home 5 hours later.

Blahblahblahnanana · 10/07/2019 12:15

Have the cesarean earlier, why make yourself more anxious by leaving it an extra week? 38 weeks is considered a full term baby.

Ohyesiam · 10/07/2019 12:15

Would you need steroid injection at 32.2?
Worth checking with your MW.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 10/07/2019 12:16

Do it. It's 5 days.

MmeBufo · 10/07/2019 12:16

I'd bring it forward too. Is better for both of you than a week of stress about movement. As others have said 37 weeks is term

CloudPop · 10/07/2019 12:16

100% bring it forward.

Lauren83 · 10/07/2019 12:16

I would definitely take the earlier section

timeforakinderworld · 10/07/2019 12:16

I would. I'd be surprised if you were given steroids though. Mine was at 36 weeks and no injections offered.
