Primary School writing to parents re. Love Island

Just seen on t.v that a head master of a school in Wales has written to parents advising that they do not let their children watch Love Island because of the impact at school. He said that 8 /9 year old kids are being too negatively affected, body issues, bad language, sexual behaviour etc and this affects the schooling?, AIBU saying who the hell lets their little kids stay up at night to watch this? Surely they should be in bed by 9pm?, why would you think it ok and appropriate?, I struggle to watch it sometimes with my late teenager, a bit toe curling at times (even though we don't miss an episode...sad, I know!) Fair play to the Headmaster, though you would think people would have more sense?

Why should i make my 16yr old come off Instagram?

And on the whole, everyone judges.

Boggles

I would love to get rid of ours!

The only contact I have with it is when I dust it :)

Dp couldn't survive without one. Dc aren't too fussed but they have iPads so pretty much the same anyway.

Good on you!

😩 how many years will this show drag on for. Sick of it no one so young should even know what it is.
At night when I see the Love Island threads on here with thousands of comments I'm literally scratching my head thinking am I the weirdo for not watching it!

RLOU30 · 10/07/2019 10:16

@Chartreuser

Why do you feel your 10 year old needs to watch Love Island? can't you just educate him in the way parents have been doing the million years prior to the show existing ? Society is in a far worse place since programes like these/social media.

It's none of my business, I'm sure, but you have shared and I'm a bit gobsmacked 😶 I mean, to catch up in the morning surely there are far better things he could be doing..

ZillaPilla · 10/07/2019 10:42

I'm thinking that if the parents are dumb enough to allow their primary aged kids to watch LI then they won't pay any attention to what the head teacher advises anyway.

Chartreuser · 10/07/2019 14:48

@RLOU30 he watches with his older siblings. It is not taken seriously, he enjoys watching it. And parents haven't been educating for millions of years, my own grandmother, whilst in labour genuinely thought the baby was going to come out of her tummy button.

Of course we have discussed the biology of reproduction etc before now, but issues such as consent, body image, confidence less so as he doesn't really have any context to relate it to. And school definitely are only covering the birds and bees.

He is not allowed to watch it without an adult and we skip bits we don't wish him to see.

I am surprised at the strength of feeling here. But this is the reality of the world they are growing up in, forewarned is forearmed
