I need to lose a total around 6st but would like to get rid of the first 3st by mid December.
Is this doable?
And best way to do it sensibly?
I want to start to exercise but i can't run, will consider all other forms of exercise though!

Yeah you can do that easily on Exante

3luckystars · 09/07/2019 17:18

Have you tried slimming world? If you haven't then it is worth a try.

Divebar · 09/07/2019 17:18

You can lose it.... the question is whether you can keep it off

TheInvestigator · 09/07/2019 17:18

I was about to suggest Exante too. But you need to be seriously committed and have will power of steel.

daffodillament · 09/07/2019 17:21

Suppose if you aim for 2lb a week you'll be about there.

abbey44 · 09/07/2019 17:23

I lost four stones in five months last year with low-carb and walking for an hour a day, but it took a determination to see it through. You have to really want to do it, but yes, it is perfectly possible.

Sparadrap · 09/07/2019 17:24

Yes you can. I’d really recommend following slimming world principles but not their unlimited portions. And try not to eat or drink past 6pm if possible. After 6pm is the time I always blow my good intentions.

Don’t do anything faddy or unsustainable.

Also start off by just walking. Add in a few swimming sessions once you start losing weight as it helps to tone you up.

Good luck, you can do it!

OrangeJustice · 09/07/2019 17:25

I lost 3st from June-Oct by doing 5:2 and calorie counting using mfp on the other days. Didn’t keep it off though!!

Laiste · 09/07/2019 17:26

It partly depends on your starting weight. The more overweight you are the faster the stones drop off at first. You say you need to lose 6 stone altogether so i'm guessing you're pretty overweight and losing the 6 will get you down to a 'normal' weight for your height. 5 months is loads of time to lose the first 3 stone in that case.

I've lost 3 stone in 3 months religiously avoiding carbs. Got down to 9 stone. I'm 5' 5''.

Good luck with it :)

Idontwanttotalk · 09/07/2019 17:27

3 stones by mid December is only 2.1 pounds per week which would be classed as losing it nice and slowly. Infinitely doable.
As you are so overweight it will probably come off much quicker at first so you are likely to lose quite a bit more than 3 pounds per week .

El0die · 09/07/2019 17:35

Definitely doable if you put your mind to it. Moderate carbs, low calorie eg 1200? is my method of choice. Eggs, salmon, chicken, lots of veg/ salad. Light light mayonnaise, 5 calorie jellies and Activia 0% yoghurts.
Use MyFitnessPal to track calories accurately and for motivation/ personal accountability. Plus buy digital kitchen scales for portion control.
Exercise is great for health but not necessary for weight loss.
First week is the hardest. Good luck.

Why1990 · 09/07/2019 17:45

I lost 4 and a half stone in 4 months with slimming world, starting weight was 14 stone 6lb

SolsticeBabyMaybe · 09/07/2019 17:47

Yes, you can. But it may not be sustainable.

Personally I think the best thing to do would be to learn about balanced meals and portion sizes, and focus on a long-term eating habit change. If you eat balanced meals in the right portions you will end up losing weight. But if you keep the healthy habits and routines you won't even have to think about your weight again.

RedDogsBeg · 09/07/2019 18:03

Yes you can do it, BUT you need to be determined and committed to doing so. Accept it will be hard work in the early stages until it becomes more ingrained and a part of your life.

It will be sustainable provided it changes your mind set and establishes new habits around food for evermore so the healthy habits and routines are now a normal, everyday part of your life. If you view it or use it as a short term fix it will fail in the long run.

SolsticeBabyMaybe has the best advice, stay away from faddy, quick-fix diets.

MarkingMyPlace9 · 09/07/2019 18:04

I lost 4 Stone in 7 Months on Slimming World, so yes, it's totally do able! Good luck

TowelNumber42 · 09/07/2019 18:05

Intermittent fasting.

Snake diet even if you are tough enough. I adore it! Only intermittently though funnily enough.

Sandybval · 09/07/2019 18:22

Yes you can, in theory; everyone's bodies are different. As others have said you will have to have really strong will power, but you shouldn't do anything faddy as it won't be sustainable. Depending what your weaknesses are depends what will work best for you, ie I used to eat healthy meals but wasnt very active and loved snacking. If however your meals are not that great then might want to consider a meal replacement shake for one meal etc. Just please don't go hungry, just eat the right stuff (easier said than done I know!). Good luck.

LovelyJubblee · 09/07/2019 18:26

I lost 2 stone August to November using weight watchers and kept it off so yes you can

bridgetreilly · 09/07/2019 18:33

Blood Sugar Diet. And you won't need the steel willpower, either. Get the book, read it, then decide what to do.

Argeles · 09/07/2019 18:48

2 weeks ago, I started to eat more sensibly, and have lost 12 pounds in this time. I was 3 stone overweight, so still have a lot to lose, but losing nearly 1 stone in 2 weeks has given so much more confidence, and the momentum to continue to eat sensibly, as well as to start at the gym this Thursday.

I have been eating:
Breakfast: 4 tablespoons of full fat Greek yoghurt topped with 5 different fruits, a drizzle of honey and a handful of granola. 2 cups of cafetière coffee with sweetners and milk.

Lunch: salad - with houmous or cheese.

Dinner: Homemade soup or salad, or curry with salad.

Snacks: pistachios, edamame beans or celery with cheese or peanut butter.

I haven’t been eating carbohydrates, or crisps or biscuits, and have cut back to 2 or 3 glasses of wine each week. I haven’t been exercising, nor have I been drinking copious amounts of water. I will start to drink more water when I start at the gym this week!

Good luck.

Fatted · 09/07/2019 18:51

If you're strict and stick with whatever plan you choose, then yes it can done.

concernedforthefuture · 09/07/2019 18:59

Try Fast 800 (buy the book). Cheaper and healthier than the shake / bar diets, but just as effective.

Wellthatwastricky · 09/07/2019 19:22

As pp have said, it's definitely doable. I am half way to losing three stone and have done that in 2.5 months, despite having eased off a couple of times due to illness. I have done this by calorie counting (1100-1200 a day) and tracking on my fitness pal. Personally not a fan of diets that require meal replacements or excluding food groups because I think the best methods are where you do something you can sustain for life. I also allow myself one day "off" a week where I generally aim to eat well but don't track or regulate, just enjoy.

My tips for deciding what method would work for you are:

  1. understand why you are overweight eg big portions, comfort eating etc so how can you address this long term

  2. know your strengths and weaknesses. I can happily eat a small lunch, no breakfast but love dinner. So despite flying in the face of the idea it's healthier to eat a light meal in the evening, I defer my pleasure and bulk of calories until the evening. It means I don't end up hungry at 9pm and end up overeating or giving up. This is a more sustainable method for me, wont be for others,

  3. a kind of amalgamation of the above - what does your long term vision of you and food look like? I don't want a life where I can't have the odd slice of cake or feel guilty about pasta and cheese for dinner. So I still eat those things but I'm learning moderation again (I used to have it). It stops me falling off the wagon and I hope once I reach my goal weight will stop me suddenly overdoing it.

Come over to the weight loss chat boards, some very supportive threads on there.

LadyLooLaa · 09/07/2019 19:26

It is definitely possible but if you want to lose 6, you’ll probably find the second 3 takes longer. I think you also need to see it not as a diet to lose 6 stone but something that you’ll do forever, so it’s important that you choose a way that you think you can stick at forever. Otherwise it won’t stay off.
