AIBU to be fed up of the facilities at work?

Toilets flood every week.

Lifts always out of service.

Kitchen opens onto the office, food smells waft in basically all day as people take lunch at different times.

We aren't allowed a toaster because it's a fire hazard (!)

We aren't allowed a kettle and have the hot water taps which never heat up enough.

All I want is some bloody jam and toast and a decent cup of tea in the morning. Is that too much to ask for? My previous place of work weren't this mental, and we were trusted with dangerous kitchen appliances like toasters.

We also don't have knives so I have to keep my own in my drawer Hmm

I got a round of applause one morning. I walked into the staffroom to find a senior member of staff looking at the toaster and wondering what to do as his hot cross bun began to catch fire in it.

I shoved him out the way swearing profusely, unplugged it, grabbed a teatowel and sprinted through reception with it billowing smoke, past the Head bellowing MOVE at him and hurled it out of the front door into a bush. The alarms didn't go off.

I then turned round to see half the building's occupants leaning out the windows.

We get people who think a fairy comes to put mugs in a magic box and get them washed, not minding the half eaten food from bowls of cereal and teabags left in them and the bogs were constantly blocking because grown women were incapable of putting blue paper towels into five bins when they could flush them down the toilets.

But the lift needs to be fixed - if you've got disabled colleagues, it's a huge problem.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 09/07/2019 23:13

This is the same at my place of work minus the lift problems as we don't have a lift.

No kettle and no toaster. It's a real.pain.

HellYeah90s · 09/07/2019 23:23

Our toilets are always blocked, plumber says it is caused combined with large no2s and small pipes Grin I am sure if the work just spent a few extra dollars on changing the pipes it would save money in the long term and less hassle

I don't remember any place I have worked with having a toaster.

We also have a hot water tap.

YesQueen · 09/07/2019 23:42

Hot water tap and microwave AND a toaster. We have bagel Tuesdays (I have no idea how these started) so manager would riot if we got rid. We bring in bagels and a variety of toppings to share. It's tricky to explain to new people Grin
Oh and a fridge and unlimited milk, tea and coffee (by unlimited we get 14 litres a day...)

FredericaBimmel · 09/07/2019 23:58

We all eat cold lunches. Or we’ve been told we can go and use the ones in the HE classrooms, two floors up and on the other side of the building. There is a canteen, but you have to fight through about 800 teenagers to use it and there isn’t really time anyway.

AlunWynsKnee · 10/07/2019 00:03

No fridge, no microwave, no toaster. I bought a kettle but I have to walk around the building to fill it up.

Lwmommy · 10/07/2019 00:06

Toasters are banned at ours too, not because of fire risk but because people are so bloody stupid they will stick knives and forks in to retrieve stuck bagels/muffins etc.

I'm forever astounded by how amazingly stupid some people are, had to drive someone to the hospital for holding their hand under the boiling water tap, this was despite the eleventy-billion 'Hot water is hot and will hurt so be careful' signs around and on the tap.

Someone managed to give themselves concussion by smacking their head on a door while pulling their boxers up in the cubicle. I honestly don't know how they did that.

So yeah toasters are banned.

Youngandfree · 10/07/2019 00:15

Good god...this is ridiculous!! I work in a school and we have two toasters, two microwaves, and two sandwich toastie makers. We don’t have a kettle but that’s because it would take too long to wait for it to boil so we have one of those hot water burco type cylinders. Not once have we set off the alarms yet Hmm

UpOnTheShelf · 10/07/2019 00:33

Our staff room has a kettle, a toaster, a microwave and a couple of tables with chairs.
However it is an old portacabin which is at the other side of the car park. It has no heating and it's freezing in the winter, and if it's raining, you get wet going to and from it.
We're not allowed food or drink in the office, of any type ever, so it's a pain.

UpOnTheShelf · 10/07/2019 00:33

We do however, have decent toilets, but no lift.

PaintingOwls · 10/07/2019 07:41

I'm amazed and saddened by how many of you are also suffering at work. I might start a petition - toasters for morale
