I have an elderly labrador, 12 years of age - nearly 13.
He wasn't very well and so I took him to the vet about 2 years ago now. The vet said he has a heart murmur and prescribed us heart tablets. He also gave him water tablets.
The tablets were to be given twice a day. I have been paying £32 per month for these tablets for the last 2 years.
In the last 3 months my dog has deteriorated and I took him back to the vets, his heart tablets were increased. The vet also suggested I may wish to put him down as he "hasn't long left". I was distraught and asked if the dog is in any pain, he said it is unlikely but is losing weight and is tired etc.
I took the vet to the PDSA (I am qualified for free treatment but always pay in local vets as its closer), and they gave a blood test and scan. They advised that there is nothing wrong with my dogs heart, however he is having problems with his kidneys which he is on new medication for.
PDSA said that the water tablets are not helping the kidney problem and he is being weaned off the medication the previous vet prescribed.
AIBU to complain to the vet and request a refund for the heart tablets my dog didn't need?
