To think talking on the train before 6am should be a criminal offence?

I’ve had an early start to my day (left the house at 4:30am) and one silly man thinks it’s acceptable to have a loud phone conversation on the train at 5 in the morning! Shut up! I don’t want to be listening to your personal conversation. One silly woman thinks has her music on too loud. I can hear your annoying music through your headphones! I need some sleep 😡

When I win the lottery, I will never wake up before 8am 😀

Have a lovely day everyone

YANBU. And why do they think a public train is an appropriate place to discuss private matters at high volume? Yesterday I had chapter and verse on the disciplinary action she was going to take on one of her employees. Went into a huge amount of personal detail. Anyone could've been on that train.

People seem to think they have some sort of invisible sound screen around them. Aaaarrrhgghhhh!

Madvixen · 09/07/2019 06:10

YADNBU!

User8888888 · 09/07/2019 06:14

You are so right. I have to get a 6.30 train and I generally just want to sleep or catch up on work if I really have to. Most people that do it regularly are the same judging by my train which is full of people snoozing.

Downunderduchess · 09/07/2019 06:20

In Sydney on certain train services we have quiet carriages where there are signs designating them as such and outlining the rules; no loud conversation, no loud phones or music etc. Good for a morning nap.

Boyskeepswinging · 09/07/2019 06:25

Ha ha Down see my recent post regarding so-called Quiet Coaches. Agree they are great when everyone abides by the rules.

Jeremybearimybaby · 09/07/2019 06:27

And the conductor should bring free coffees/teas, and hook them up via IV Grin

iateallthecheesecake · 09/07/2019 06:31

YADNBU.

if you ever consider emigrating, it is completely socially unacceptable to talk on the phone (or even particularly loudly) on the trains in Japan. And your fellow commuters/train guards/posters would police it and tell you in no uncertain terms to be considerate and shut up... Was actually incredible. The same thing was also true in lifts. Was one of the best things about working there Gin

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 09/07/2019 06:35

I'd ban alcohol too. Pissed and loud people at 8am is not on. Life was quieter before phones. What's with watching videos without headphones too? Or kids glued to screens watching peppa bastarding pig. Grrr. I've woken up at 5 am with a banging headache so am grumpy this morning Grin

MyFavouritePlace · 09/07/2019 06:39

And blowing your nose really loudly! Man opposite me is making me see red. I'm being terribly mature and twisting my face and flaring my nostrils with each blow!

barryfromclareisfit · 09/07/2019 06:39

OP, I agree. Talking before six should receive a severe punishment. Talking before 9am should also be forbidden. The best thing about not working is not being compelled to hear the inane chatter of people on their way to work.

Sleeping on public transport is, in my opinion and experience, the most efficient use of the time.

BeardedMum · 09/07/2019 06:39

YANBU should be banned at all times

MyFavouritePlace · 09/07/2019 06:40

Ha, the man next to him just moved!

SamBeckett · 09/07/2019 06:41

I dont often use trains but next week I am going to be getting on one at 5am ish the trip is almost 4.5 hrs whoa betide any bugger that can not keep their voice down !

Shoxfordian · 09/07/2019 06:43

Too lenient
No talking before 8am

echt · 09/07/2019 06:49

I agree, the utter bliss of Japanese trains, iateallthecheesecake.

OP, YANBU.

treenu · 09/07/2019 06:53

I am in full support!

The train I get is usually beautifully quiet... but every now and then someone will come and sit just behind me and rustle around.
There are 12 near-ish empty carriages - but no sit right near me?!

Don't get me started on the man that does his yoga routine in the aisle! Although my dc find this really funny when I tell them.

Personally I would also like to ban people eating crisps. I get irrationally angry in an instant. Sometimes I will just change carriage.

treenu · 09/07/2019 07:10

I've jinxed it - now I have mr sniffy sat behind me in a completely empty carriage...

Snoopertrooper · 09/07/2019 07:13

To be honest I think getting up any earlier than 7am should be a criminal offence.

Lemonyfuckit · 09/07/2019 07:31

So so needed to read this post this morning. Was up at 05:00 and was in a major grump about work / super stressed anyway. Reading this and the 'permission' to be super grumpy has, conversely, put a smile on my face. But yes, talking before 08:00 or maybe 09:00 (or at least until I've had a second cup of coffee) should be banned. Early trains should be for quietly snoozing / reading etc. And don't get me started on people playing music / videos on their phones without headphones - Makes. My. Blood. Boil. When did that become socially acceptable? - it's hasn't. And yet people seem to do it anyway. Grrrrrr.

raspberrypancakes · 09/07/2019 07:33

YABU Not everyone struggles to get up in the morning.

Queenoftheashes · 09/07/2019 07:36

YANBU, it is so annoying. Got a 5am coach once, two hour journey and some awful teenage boy was essentially showing off for his girl mates for the whole time with loud nonsensical chatter, stupid noises and hysterical laughing. Eventually a woman told him to shut up and no one wanted to listen to him. It was brilliant. I think he piped down then - I wish I was brave enough to do more than tut and look annoyed.

proudestofmums · 09/07/2019 07:48

Wholly agree. At a slight tangent, Some time ago, someone either on MN or the other chat room I follow said s/he was on the train travelling home for me meeting with a prospective client. In the next row of seats happened to be said client, discussing in detail how he had pulled the wool over the poster’s eyes and the tactics he’d use the following day when the meeting resumed. The poster said when s/he walked past this chap his face was a picture!

Back on track - ish - how do ticket collectors on very early trains know to come round to look at your ticket at the precise moment you’ve just dropped off to sleep? Do they go to the same training school as waiters who come to ask if everything’s ok just as the person you’re eating with is saying something specially important/complicated etc?

HorseGallopingOnATomato · 09/07/2019 08:20

I used to have to get the 5:15 train every morning, full only of people dozing and looking generally zombified. Yet, they’d come and check our tickets EVERY SINGLE MORNING, waking everyone up. It was the same people on the train every day!

transformandriseup · 09/07/2019 08:30

YADNBU

I would say at least 7am to be honest. I take one the first trains out of Penzance in the morning and love the silence.

Mammalian · 09/07/2019 08:33

Fully agree.. I'm up every day at 5am and can barely even summon the energy to talk to DH at that time, thankfully he's the same Grin
