To ask for help with camping with a 14mo

Very nervous about our first camping trip with DS1 14months. We used to love camping and have done wild camping and all that malarkey but I'm so stressed about the idea of taking DS1 but am aware once we've done it we'll be fine. We have DSD who is 9 and loves camping too, so we've decided to take the plunge.

Has anyone got any fantastic tips?

I'm also trying to find a campsite either in western Scotland or Pembrokeshire. Has anyone got any recommendations. In my mind I'm thinking a pool, lake or something would be good, especially for DSS, a small shop for bits and bobs and I'm feeling like a field as opposed to grass verges next to a track for cars would be better so DS has a bit more freedom as he likes to wander. If anyone has an recommendations that'd be fab too!

Is there anything I can buy to make it easier? Any meal ideas that I can cook from one hob? I'm so worried about him getting cold in the night too. Is that irrational? I read something about someone's baby's lips going blue and it's freaked me out.

Any advice, help, words of wisdom would be so welcomed!

Don't try to keep him ckean-just wet wipe the parts you can see. Wrap him well in blankets and put him in between you in the sleeping bag.

I always used to do two onesies , baby sleeping bag plus blanket, depending on temperature. Remember to check he’s warm enough by checking neck/torso not hands/feet

We took the travel cot at that age. Useful to take out of the tent during the day and use as a playpen/napping spot. We went in hot weather though so if you are worried re cold then might be better to have him sleep closer to you I guess?we just took normal winter weight gro bag from home, and a hat.
Take some washable plastic toys (eg stacking cups)

We first went back to camping when dd was 7months old. We all slept in the same room of our tent. We had a travel cot that had a mozzie net that we could zip over it. We used to put a blanket over it and open the side zip so she could crawl out to us if she needed us but was kept a bit warmer and darker in her little cave.
Now she's 3 she sleeps on her own air bed next to us. I find it quicker and easier to settle her if she's right near us. Bedtime goes out the window so she's more likely to sleep in a bit longer. We take alot of pasta/sauce meals.

No tips for baby, but Millarochy Bay is a beautiful campsite. On the edge of Loch Lomond, nice facilities, a little shop etc. I stayed there for a few nights last month, and it was beautiful.

I'm not sure that camping in Western Scotland by a lake is a great idea. The midges will be awful. I would go to Wales. I have no advice otherwise.

Waterproof dungarees - togz are good. Better than full all in one for summer.

For cooking it depends how many nights but for a short trip take some bolognese or chilli from home for one night, sausages and beans another and go out/ get fish and chips for third!

I was going to suggest waterproofs too, not for the rain but for the morning when the grass is wet.

We used to fill one of our camping boxes up and have an open air bath in there. Didn’t Necessarily get them clean but entertained them for ages!

A baby sleeping bag from JoJoMaman Bébé with arms is a godsend for camping. I usually buy 2nd hand from eBay etc.

Celtic camping in Pembrokeshire is lovely, views are amazing and they have upgraded the site since we went, no pool but near the beach.
We camped with them as babies and just all slept together, but we did anyway at home.
