AIBU to take an emergency gp appointment tomorrow - for the second time in a month?

Sorry for the strange details in this!

I have been having loads of trouble with a UTI. I have had two loads of antibiotics now , one three day course and one 7 day course.

I have a pelvic scan booked in 3 weeks time to look at a separate (I think!) issue which was super heavy periods. No Idea if that will show anything to do with this!

I have never had any burning when I pee or anything but had back pain and dipsticks at gp (and later some my dh bought!) showed loads of blood - but nothing else.

The 7 day antibiotics finished nearly 2 weeks ago. But tbh I still feel run down and getting stomach pains. Today my pee has been really dark and my lower stomach is really very sore even.

So my AiBU.
My gp only had emergency appointments for Dane day - non emergency is about a weeks wait.

AIBU to go back again with this? Or am I being overly dramatic.

I feel like I’m getting a reputation for being the pee woman but it’s really getting me down now!

I should add they won’t take samples over the counter without the appointment (I asked last time!)

Take the appointment and don't beat yourself up. It is not your fault you are ill.

Surfingtheweb · 08/07/2019 20:59

I think it's perfectly ok to be seen as an emergency if you are feeling unwell. The thing with UTIs is they can rapidly change, maybe this time book an emergency and book a routine appointment at the same time to follow up, if you don't need the routine app you can cancel it. Don't suffer though, utis are brutal.

Passmeabrew · 08/07/2019 20:59

No yanbu. Uti can't be treated OTC, can get much worse if not treated and often can't wait for the next routine appointment. Unless your surgery has a triage service, you need to be seen so call tomorrow and book the appointment!

TerribleTwosPhase · 08/07/2019 21:00

I dont think yabu, UTIs can quickly spread to your kidneys. I frequently get UTIs and last time when the antibiotics werent working the doctor gave it 24 hours to improve or they were sending me to hospital to have IV antibitoics. I honestly think its one of those things people dont appreciate how bad they can be unless they've had them. Hope you feel better soon.

HiJuice · 08/07/2019 21:00

Don't feel bad about needing an emergency appointment for this. It could be a kidney infection or something serious. It's up to the GPs to manage their appointment system - not your fault they are too busy.

6timesthemess · 08/07/2019 21:01

Thanks I have been trying to just drink loads but I was a little freaked out by the blood colour today ! ( sorry for the mental image!)

Please take the appt I frequently get UTIs due to having a non functioning kidney. I've been hospitalised several times. It's not worth the risk

Hellhath · 08/07/2019 21:03

No you're definitely not. Your infection could have spread to your kidneys which can cause lasting damage. It needs sorting.

Wereonabearhunt · 08/07/2019 21:08

Take the appointment. Utis can change very quick. I ended up in a+e a few weeks back. I knew i had a uti but left it and left it cause i knew i had a routine appointment coming up, the symptoms of uti had even started to subside. I then ended up hallucinating on the bus on the way home from work, got off in the middle of nowhere and ended up lost. It proper messed with my head..all caused by a simple infection

Stuckforthefourthtime · 08/07/2019 21:11

Yanbu. Where we are there are only.emergency appointments or 3 weeks in advance, so in practise everything is an 'emergency' for us, as not much can wait so long..Hope you are better soon.

fuckfuckfuckitall · 08/07/2019 21:13

Take the appt - I’m onto day 10 of a UTI now and now have a kidney infection . On co amoxiclav, cocodamol and cyclizine . Lots of bleeding from bladder to boot . Antibiotics failed twice so far, now on a third lot - definitely get it sorted sooner rather than later !!

CottonSock · 08/07/2019 21:13

Of course you are not unreasonable

DuMondeB · 08/07/2019 21:14

Not at all.

I ended up in hospital for 5 nights with a kidney infection that started as a bog standard UTI.

starzig · 08/07/2019 21:15

I wouldn't if a normal is only a week. Would if the normal appt was a month though.

BarryTheKestrel · 08/07/2019 21:22

Take the appointment. UTIs get nasty quickly.

RB68 · 08/07/2019 21:23

you are not being unreasonable at all UTIs can be a nightmare a nd back up to kidney infection and worse

Snowy81 · 08/07/2019 21:27

OP I didn’t know I had a infection- no pain or stinging when weeing etc. Just some
Back ache which I put down to driving 4 hours a day (I didn’t look at my wee colour 🙈). Next thing I collapsed, ambulance took me to A&E, it was a kidney infection. Please don’t take chances, and not go by thinking you are being a pain, you are not!

tolerable · 08/07/2019 21:35

you matter.the end

Sciurus83 · 08/07/2019 21:37

What tolerable said

UTIs can be really serious and you aren't well, no more hand wringing and get ye to the doctors

TitsInAbsentia · 08/07/2019 21:43

I agree with everyone else, so you're taking that appointment please!

theunrivalledjoysofparenting · 08/07/2019 22:04

Take the appt. Do a urine sample and ask the GP to send it to the lab for testing. That will tell you what bacteria/infection you have, and if it’s treatable by the AB prescribed.

Tbh, i’d Be wondering about a kidney or bladder infection, not a UTI, if you have no pain when weeing.

Tell the receptionist about dark pee and the pain. Good luck.

Drink loads, empty your bladder fully at every wee, don’t hold your wee - go to the loo as soon as you need to.
