To go straight to the online small claims court before sending a letter before action?

Having a nightmare with P2G. Usual nonsense.
I took out the additional cover. The item was packed as per their terms.. it was a musical instrument. They trashed it.
It has literally taken months and they still haven’t paid out.
I have sent numerous emails and I have used resolver.co.uk.. it’s an online complaint escalation service that’s free and it has taken me to the point where I have now messaged their CEO twice.. with no response.
Every email or correspondence from them contradicts a previous...
Today they were meant to collect the item.. I waited in today..
they didn’t show - wasted 30 mins talking to someone from customer service who said that “the item was of large value so had to go to supervisor..” (we’re talking £119 here... ) and when they asked me if I had already paid the buyer back... (not quite sure what my relationship with my buyer has to do with the contract they have with me.. but hey.. let’s procrastinate a bit more).. I was meant to understand that they WERE NOT going to collect today.. and that they are just going to pay me out.. clearly none of that was mentioned in the email.. cos’ I’m the idiot sitting at home waiting for them to turn up and scrap the bloody thing.
So.. having got a huge fist full of evidence.. and having done this resolver thing (from moneysupermarket).. do I really need to send an LBA? It’ll take another 2 weeks.
Am I being stupid by not doing and just going straight to the online small claims thingy..?
Any help - gratefully received!

I'd write a LBA, label it as such, use it to set out in clear factual terms what has happened and what you're claiming, and send it recorded/POD.

  1. it may scare them into paying up 2) it is a useful document to put before a judge to show that you have tried to resolve the issue directly with them before taking court action.

EssentialHummus - thank you. Wasn’t sure what the real point of doing an LBA was especially as I feel I have been banging my head against their door for such a long time. I hoped that resolver was like a mediation service.. but it clearly isn’t... never got this far with anything so don’t want to mess it up.
Thank you for your advice
