AIBU to worry slightly?

For a few months now probably (at least a month especially), DS has been quite clammy and sweaty at night. I usually just leave pyjamas off otherwise it's worse.

I've just looked at him now while the lamp is still on, he's only in a t-shirt and it's warm but not hot in here (I was feeling neutral in a big T-shirt and shorts under the duvet), and he had proper beads of sweat all over his forehead, I've adjusted him slightly and there's a massive wet patch under his head from his sweat!

My ds has always been like this. Even as a baby. Hes now 6. Nursery said they had never had such a sweaty child! Dh is very similar. Rarely seen in a jumper and in shorts most of the year! Ds is a very well and healthy. Is this something new for your child?

loie · 08/07/2019 20:09

@Mumof1andacat he's always been quite clammy while he sleeps but never noticeable or extreme, now it's full on sweat.

I think my worry is that it's only when he's sleeping - he isn't bad for sweating in the day, it's as soon as he's asleep (including nap times).

Mine were always sweaty, none of them have ever needed a winter quilt as they just sweated through the whole of winter. YANBU to be worried if you haven't seen sweaty children before, but there are loads of them about and it is quite normal.

fitterhappierhealthier · 08/07/2019 20:13

If I check on my daughter at any point in the evening she's always sweaty. She hates most covers and only when it's super cold will she snuggle under the duvet. It's always worse at the beginning of the night for some reason 🤷‍♀️

MrBlueSkype · 08/07/2019 20:13

I could always tell when my youngest DS was tired as he got more sweaty the more tired he got. 😂

BuffaloCauliflower · 08/07/2019 20:13

You must be related to my family. We’re all sweaty. My DNs are always the sweatiest children everywhere, since about 18 months. Some people sweat more. It’s not a bad thing.

loie · 08/07/2019 20:14

I've never slightly sweated in my sleep and can even get under a big winter duvet during our heatwaves! Blush at least I know there's hopefully nothing to worry about though and he's not abnormal!!!! Grin

My DS (2) is like this. He's never slept with a cover over him

Laiste · 08/07/2019 20:20

My older 3 were all chilly bods at night and never got very sweaty unless they were really ill, but DD3 (5) has always soaked a bed in a shocking amount of sweat if she got at all hot in the night, or put too many teddies in bed with her ect. I put her to bed with just a sheet over her if it's a warm night and let her have only one small ted. On in-between temp nights like we're having at the mo she's sleeping under the duvet but in the nude.

My nephew seems to have been sweaty day and night since he was able to walk! Hair plastered to his head with sweat on his face when ever he's running around with his (totally dry) cousins.

Blubluboo · 08/07/2019 20:24

I work with kids and they have all been increasingly sweaty during nap times over the last month, the temperature has risen, even on overcast days. They are always worse when sleeping.

Sammylouiise · 11/11/2021 23:57

Hey just wondering if ur son is still having the night sweats my daughter is 2 and is soaked every night d:(

Sam020 · 12/11/2021 00:54

It's probably nothing serious but make an appointment with your GP to get it checked. There are a number of conditions (some harmless and some more serious) that can cause night sweats).

We finally mentioned our Ds's night sweats to gp and they said we should have mentioned it much earlier. However ds also has poor weight gain, which makes the night sweats more worrying. Gp has requested an urgent appointment to the pediatrician and got a blood test done.

Definitely do get it checked out

JessieOh · 12/11/2021 01:00

I second this. Needs to be checked out to rule out health conditions causing them to sweat so much.

Sammylouiise · 12/11/2021 01:13

They have done bloods and just left it as that. They told me some kids can just sweat but I don’t believe it :( xx

In some kids it takes s bit longer for the sweat glands to develop. Also, it could be that the room they sleep in is genuinely too warm. If there are no other worrying symptoms and nothing is found in the blood test it's probably fine
PrincessNutella · 12/11/2021 06:24

My older child was always too hot and he's a grown-ass man and he's still too hot, even in the middle of winter. It's adorable.
