in an ideal world where all kids ended up with who they wanted it would be ok, but more theyll get 2 friend options and end up with 1,which can lead to disappointment in young children, it never seems to be an even split, lets say a class of 30,and 3 classes ends up. with like 15 in one class, 6 in one and 9 in another, it must be quite unsettling at times aswell, AIBU to wonder if its all necessary? (dripfeed i went a v. small school so no change of class ever till. comp back inthe days where classes were nearly 40 Hmm)

The DC's school is single form so it doesn't happen. Fortunately both DCs are in lovely classes with no dominant characters to disrupt the class. There have been more unfortunate combinations that classes have been stuck with for years.

My first school mixed each year which was just our normal.

My next school didn't tend to mix. There was a bit of shuffling with mixed year groups as there were 4 years and 7 classes in the infants, but the main contingent of each year group went unchanged. Generally no change through the junior school. Our year group was changed into y6 as during y5 there were a lot of friendship breakdowns and unplesantness. It was much more settled in y6.

We’re in Australia and classes get changed every year from K-6.

In November they ask parents to submit any requests they have for their child but you have to have a very good reason for wanting them placed with a certain child, or separated from one etc. and it’s not guaranteed, they just take it into consideration.
