My sister, niece (11) and nephew (15) are coming to stay with us (I live abroad) she normally stays in a hotel as my parents stay with us, so has had dinner at ours, bbqs etc..but they’ll be staying over for one night, so I’d like to do a special outdoors table breakfast as it’s really warm..what would you include?

Fresh local fruits.
Local hams and cheeses,
Fresh pastries.
Good bread (and butter if you live in a butter area)

NabooThatsWho · 07/07/2019 21:19

Croissants and chocolate spread.
Luxury yoghurts.
Fresh juice.

tealandteal · 07/07/2019 21:23

Selection of pastries, fruit, juices, yogurt etc. Lots of choice

Sundancer77 · 07/07/2019 21:25

I was thinking along the lines of croissants/pastries, cheese, ham, strawberries, good yoghurts, fresh orange etc..but for kids that age? Do they generally just have cereal 🤷‍♀️😂

Mine would love all that!

PintOfBovril · 07/07/2019 21:29

Bircher style cereal would be lovely with choice of toppings - fresh fruit, nuts, seeds etc.
Fruit kebabs with yogurt
Pancakes or French toast/waffles

EgremontRusset · 07/07/2019 21:29

Bircher muesli !

Sundancer77 · 07/07/2019 21:34

I just asked my mum what they have (the kids) when they stay at hers..she said they ask for Frosties and Ice cream 😮🙈
I generally do most of the above as a nice breakfast on a regular breakfast, but could incorporate some sweet pastries from here too and maybe simple cereal. Small pancakes I like too, with strawberries/berries etc

*Regular basis

French toast with berries

Sundancer77 · 07/07/2019 22:19

And what about nibble type things when they arrive at ours from the airport (9ish pm) Sister says not to make dinner, but I guess he kids may be peckish-what would you put out? Am rubbish at this 🤷‍♀️🤣

I would think an 11 and 15 year old would generally eat the same as an adult. The fresh fruit, pastries etc. all sounds lovely and you could always but a box of frosties to keep in the cupboard just in case!

BeanBag7 · 07/07/2019 22:36

Evening snacks I would just do normal nibbles - crisps, cheese straws, olives, veg and dips, maybe cheese and biscuits

YoThePussy · 07/07/2019 22:51

OP, your breakfast ideas sound just lovely to me. Can I come and stay please?

I am currently on a muesli with fresh strawberries, banana and blueberries scattered on top breakfast kick. I am sure something similar would work with Frosties.

AdaColeman · 07/07/2019 22:57

Snacks in the evening when they arrive, I'd do things like cheese & crackers, maybe chicken or ham sandwiches. If they wanted something hot you could make omelettes.

happyhillock · 07/07/2019 23:05

Breakfast croissants, yogurt, ham, cheese, toast, banana, cereal, orange juice

annikin · 07/07/2019 23:08

Evening snacks I'd make sure you had bread for toast/sandwiches

Divebar · 07/07/2019 23:13

For breakfast pancakes ( American style with various toppings - fresh berries , Nutella, yoghurt etc). I do a version with bananas, eggs and porridge oats zapped in the food processor if for some reason you need to avoid flour. French toast made with brioche bread would be indulgent with berries. I think kids tend to love melon and exotic fruits to you could put out some of that too.... great toast with good bread and good fresh coffee. Scrambled eggs and smoked salmon. I’m hungry now ( you could buy those little variety packs of cereals if you wanted an option )

Onesailwait · 08/07/2019 00:12

My kids are evening snackers. I stock up cheese, crackers, pepperoni Bagels, popcorn, frozen pizza that you can just pop in the oven ,crisps bread for toast & various sandwicch filings. 11 & 15yr olds are always hungry!!!. I hope you have a wonderful visit with your family

Sundancer77 · 08/07/2019 08:01

Thank you all!

Pastries, fruit, cheese, bread - no teens don't just eat cereal (mine hate it) but do whatever is typical for where you live, make it a cultural experience!

stucknoue · 08/07/2019 08:12

They will eat just what you eat, they don't need special food but have crisps, cheese & crackers, antipasti type things maybe as snacks but use where you live as a guide (eg in Greece I would have mini spanakopita, in Spain some cold tapas)
