Aibu to not mention the carpet mark

So I am going to be moving out of my house in the next few weeks and I have accidentally marked the carpet (see photo) it’s two small burns and it’s from my hair dryer but not massively noticeable, or I don’t think so at least? Do you think I should mention it or do you think I should just try my luck coz it will mean I lose my deposit and I kind of need it for moving into my new house and also will need it to put towards things for my baby due end of the year.

I’ve checked out the shelter housing website which states they can take the bond to replace to the same value and as the room is reasonably sized then I think it would be the full amount of deposit.

The rest of the house is immaculate and I have kept it in really good condition, I am thinking of asking to leave the fridge freezer, the tv unit and the bed and mattress (all excellent condition) so she can advertise as part furnished and ask for more rent to make up for this.

What do you think

Get a pair of nail scissors and snip off the burnt carpet ends. Try a few to start. Not the whole thing. If it looks ok, do that to each one. (We did this and no one noticed)

I'd notice. I drag my feet and, if necessary, hands across the different shades in a carpet... ask me why?

Well, tenants on the way out try anything to cover up burns and landlords do much the same to tenants on the way in!!

Had the same thing happen with a iron! Get some fine sand paper and give it a rub then hoover it up. Got rid of my burn mark 100%.

@ CuriousaboutSamphire

It’s with DPS I asked for the details of it and I’ve been reading online so are the rules same across the board for this sort of thing?

Yes I had my hairdryer switched on resting on a surface but and I put it down to section my hair the vibrations made it fall off the surface and by the time I grabbed it the marks had been left.

Yes. They are all very similar, they have to be. The DPS info just wasn't as handy to look up Smile

@ScotsinOz there are no plug points in bathrooms in the U.K.

ScotsinOz · 10/07/2019 09:45

@eurochick In old houses I understand that (as I’m from Scotland), but I thought powerpoints were now allowed to be fitted in new builds and when renovating?

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/07/2019 10:18

There have always been exemptions but they are not considered usual...

Try sandpaper. It worked on our carpet.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 10/07/2019 10:36

I'm not sure the sandpaper would work on that heat mark. Sandpaper works well when the top of twist carpets can be taken off and OPS heat mark is looks to be deeper, more heat stain than scorch mark.

But it could be worth a try - nail file if no sandpaper available. But do be careful. I have seen some very oddly scalped carpets where the 'repair' caused more damage than the original scorce mark.
